Astroscale is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual for the position of Deputy Global Chief Engineer. The Deputy Global Chief Engineer will play a critical role in guiding, coordinating, and assessing technical quality and risk of Astroscale engineering projects to ensure mission success. This senior position requires a wide range of space industry experience and knowledge, ability to understand complex
problems, and excellent communication and team working skills to work directly with our global engineering team The role will also work to identify engineering inefficiencies and areas of cost savings across all global engineering projects


This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic and rapidly growing global company seeking to address the safe and sustainable development of space through development of in orbit services technologies . This position will work closely with our UK and France office along with other projects and staff in Europe but will interact and support all global Astroscale engineering teams across multiple geographies, time zones, languages, and cultures. Some international travel will be required.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in design reviews and technical meetings to provide technical review and feedback.
  • Participate and support Failure Review Boards (FRB), Material Review Boards (MRB), major Non-Conformance Report (NCR) investigations, and other major failures and anomaly investigations as required.
  • Ensure engineering standards and best practices are being followed across all global programs.
  • Work with and support local engineers on various engineering projects to ensure technical consistency and provide guidance as needed.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of a comprehensive technical risk matrix, identifying and managing potential technical risks associated with all Astroscale projects and engineering initiatives on a global scale.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration among engineering teams across different global offices, ensuring alignment of technical goals and objectives.
  • Lead the technical assessments and input for global cost reduction efforts by identifying opportunities for engineering efficiency improvements and implementing solutions and tools to optimize engineering processes and workflows.
  • Reports to Global Chief Engineer and supports all tasks and efforts of the Global Chief Engineering office.


Essential Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of hands-on engineering experience on a space or space related project within the space industry.
  • Experience with the entire design life cycle of satellite development projects such as: mission analysis design, requirements development, system budgets, design reviews, assembly integration and test (AIT), launch operations, and in-orbit operations.
  • Broad knowledge of spacecraft subsystems & various satellite engineering disciplines.
  • Familiarity with space industry standards, best practices, and engineering development process.
  • Effective communication skills including strong written and verbal communication capabilities in English.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative international environment.
  • Degree in engineering or related field


Desirable Skills

  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities and experience in managing complex technical engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of space debris, space situational awareness, rendezvous, docking, proximity operations and/or formation flying.
  • Familiarity with space related international export regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Experience working in an international organization.
