The selected candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans.
Note: This position can be filled at a Principal Engineer Materials/ Senior Principal Material and Process level.
Responsibilities:
Own aspects of materials and process engineering related to testing, process development, and material selection.
Approve material and process selection based on program requirements
Design and develop new processes for implementing materials related to F-35
Rapid prototyping of novel coupon configurations to support production ramp up
Support design engineering and production for materials selection
Test and characterize materials
Implement new processes in volume manufacturing
Manufacturing ramp to hit rate and yield
Negotiate and request changes, with the customer, to material and process specifications, as well as quality control specifications
Develop integrated process experiments to lead key process improvement initiatives and process development to increase efficiency
Basic Qualifications for Principal Material Process Engineer:
Bachelor’s of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Material Process Engineer:
Bachelor’s of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a PhD in a STEM discipline AND 4 years of related professional/military experience in engineering
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
Degree in one of the following: materials engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, polymer science or other relevant field of study
Professional experience with R&D and manufacturing, preferably in the aerospace industry
Experience with material selection, such as: Polymers and adhesives, Composites, Metals
Experience with testing and characterization
Experience with process engineering
Design of experiment (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC)
Experience with risk mitigation
Capable of implementing failure analysis techniques in manufacturing
Ramp up rate for high volume manufacturing
Yield engineering
