Northrop Grumman’s, Armament Systems Business Unit is looking for a Production Engineering Manager 3 to join our team of dedicated, diverse individuals based out of our Plymouth, MN facility. 

Armament Systems specializes in the development and production of Ammunition, Guns and Precision Guidance Ordinance.

**Location**

This position requires on-site support. Selected candidate will need to be within commuting distance to our site in Plymouth, MN. Relocation assistance may be available if selected candidate is not local.

The Production Engineering (PE) Manager reports to the Senior Director of Engineering and manages all the PE activities. The PE Manger leads a team of approximately 60 engineers that supports ongoing production programs.


The PE Manager ensures that all production support and development activities utilize the best approaches to ensure deliver of highest quality production items and an efficient process and culture for transitioning new products into production while considering the input of all internal and external customers. The PE Manager will lead, coach, and direct other engineers and technicians to accomplish project deliverables and strategic objectives, drive timely decision making, and develop a highly talented team.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of 60 engineers responsible for production engineering support to production programs including large caliber ammo, Precision guidance Kit, Advanced Medium Caliber ammo, and many other production programs.  Management responsibilities include providing production engineering expertise to support production quality and issue resolution, talent development, staffing, workload planning, process improvement, capital and expense budgets, software tool planning and management, and accountability for team performance
  • Provide guidance, direction, and performance feedback to a large group of engineers on difficult technical challenges resulting in high impact to the business.
  • Assess the engineering value stream in their area of responsibility with input from key stakeholders. Initiate continuous improvement activities to create high quality and efficient processes. Implement planning, execution, and tracking methods to increase engineering process excellence, problem solving, and lessons learned communication.
  • Coach, support, and motivate to ensure a high performing engineering team. Create and maintain development and succession plans for team members. Lead recruiting efforts to build and maintain team capabilities.
  • Ensure hiring plans, staff development, and workload plans are aligned to overall capability and capacity strategy. Manage team budgets, schedules and resources to effectively meet business goals.
  • Support efficiency and cost effectiveness through identification of potential innovations and proposal preparation.
  • Set and promote high standards for quality and safety. Maintains selected engineering processes and drive technical excellence by ensuring team output meets technical standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of engineering best practices and technology innovations by attending industry events and educational activities.
  • Represent and communicate Defense Systems technical capabilities, capacity and technologies to internal and external customers.
  • Present deliverables at program technical reviews, proposal reviews, or other technical meetings.
  • Lead performance and compensation management activities for team members.
  • Prepare, review, and approve cost estimates and written technical proposals. Manage cost and schedule for independent research or process improvement projects assigned to your team.
  • Advise stakeholders and team members on how to meet established schedules or resolve technical issues.
  • Coordinate with programs and peer functional managers to ensure appropriate staffing strategies are developed and executed with any performance issues resolved or escalated in a timely manner.
  • Ensure team members are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with 15 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 13 years of experience, or a PhD with 11 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leading, developing, and reviewing team members
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance, US Citizenship required
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring, leading and coaching in a professional capacity
  • Experience leading a production or technical team toward successful product delivery
  • Proven partnership/collaboration skills and ability to partner with cross disciplines within a team
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) across all levels of the organization

Desired Qualifications:

  • Engineering Degree from an accredited university
  • 10+ years of experience in leading, developing, and reviewing team members
  • 10+ years working with medium caliber ammunition production and/or development activities
  • Active DoD Secret level security clearance or higher
  • Experience with supporting production programs, including experience with production process and variation control methods and techniques. 
  • Experience with managing ammunition development and qualification programs.
  • Experience with AS9100/ISO 9001, CMMI, and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
  • Six Sigma/Lean experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working with suppliers and procurement to improve quality and optimize schedules

Salary Range: $156,800.00 - $235,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
