This role is a part of Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to Business Units with the focus on design, build and maintenance of the ground systems, test and launch facilities across multiple locations.
As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers, you will work on designing and developing key structural ground systems for Blue Origin’s new launch site at LC-36 (Cape Canaveral, FL). You’ll have the unique opportunity to be part of a great team building the mechanical and structural systems and GSE (Ground Support Equipment) needed for Blue Origin’s giant rocket, New Glenn!
This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develop structural design solutions for large structural/mechanical systems.
- Provide FEA and hand-calcs for complex steel structures.
- Manage external design and fabrication partners through complete project lifecycle, and oversee equipment fabrication, assembly, installation, and testing & activation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in structural, civil, mechanical, or aerospace engineering (or similar discipline).
- 10+ years experience with a background in design/analysis/construction of large and complex structural systems (i.e. launch vehicle GSE, aerospace tooling, oil/gas structures, movable structures, etc).
- Experience in structural and mechanical analysis utilizing FEA tools (STAAD and ANSYS preferred).
- Experience designing and analyzing bolted and welded connections.
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 2+ years direct experience in GSE design and analysis for aerospace industry.
- Experience in STAAD.
- PE license (structural).
