Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking multiple Senior Staff Metals & Corrosion Material Process Engineer.  This position is located in Roy, UT and supports the Sentinel program.  This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform full spectrum of corrosion management tasks on assigned system and sub-systems to ensure streamlined risk identification, risk mitigation, and tracking of corrosion issues during the design of weapon systems and equipment under an overarching Systems Engineering framework.

  • Develop/maintain/review & approve Corrosion Prevention and Control Plans(CPCPs), PPSLs, PAMPLs of all design teams and their major sub suppliers and perform issue tracking and risk mitigation for all corrosion issues.

  • Desk/Paperwork includes drafting and reviewing design documents, drawings, specification and test plans. Also recommending materials selections and process selections for welding, metallurgy, and/or corrosion.

  • Demonstrate a complete understanding and wide application of technical principles, theories, and concepts relative to service life estimation and corrosion.

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of Systems Engineering, multi-generational program system and/or multi-generational program subsystem development, and familiarity with supplier management.

  • Work independently to provide innovative technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

  • Create, analyze, and produce roadmaps, impact, and issue reports and present data to stakeholders, customers, and upper management. Research specifications and standards to support metals and corrosion engineering processes. Research technical, corrosion data sources using Government and commercial sources. Review and evaluate engineering solutions, design, and technical data for corrosion impacts. Follow Systems Engineering disciplines and processes. Assist in the Hexavalent Chromium prevention process. Applicant will be expected to maintain close coordination with several integrated product teams, provide detailed status to program leadership, participate in Corrosion Prevention and Advisory Board meetings, as required.

  • Self-motivated, work under general direction, and work well in teams.

  • Collaborate with systems engineers, design engineers, project managers, reliability engineers, and external customers for establishing corrosion best practices for galvanic assessments, service life predictions, failure analysis, 3D modeling and simulation, specifications, and processes.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 14 years' experience; 12 years’ experience with a Master’s degree; or 9 years’ experience with a PhD

  • Must be a US Citizen with ability to obtain an active DoD Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain Special Access Program (SAP) Clearance 

  • Experience leading projects

  • Familiarity with corrosion, metallurgy, welding, mechanical properties, materials properties, etc.

  • Skilled in drafting, interpreting, and reviewing design documents, drawings, specification and test plans.

  • Proficient at recommending materials selections and process selections for welding, metallurgy, and/or corrosion.

  • Ability to work closely with multiple functional organizations (Engineering, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Field Operations, etc.)

  • Able and willing to coordinate small scale M&P Projects

  • Experience with AWS and/or ASME welding specifications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Corrosion Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Engineering Physics, Solid State Chemistry, or Corrosion Engineering discipline from an accredited university

  • 6+ years in cathodic protection, service life estimation, failure analysis and metallurgy OR related professional/military experience working in an Engineering or Technical position (4 years with Masters)

  • Experience leading/mentoring engineering team members

  • Experience giving guidance and teaching about metallurgy, corrosion, and or welding

  • Familiarity with AAMP / NACE Corrosion Certification/s

  • Understanding of process/procedure development, control, and improvement

  • Stress Corrosion Cracking Test planning experience

  • Experience with Service Life Testing, Corrosion testing, Allowable Testing, and failure analysis

  • Demonstrated passion for corrosion, kinetics, and thermodynamics of materials.

  • Demonstrated passion for being a creative and out-of-the box thinker

  • Experience with Siemens Teamcenter, NX solid modeling

  • Excellent 2-way communication skills (upward and downward)

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations, with ability to focus on multiple projects with competing priorities

  • Demonstrated experience in making sound data-driven decisions in uncertain and difficult situations.

  • Strong sense of urgency and work ethic in ensuring engineering meets customer and program expectations in a timely and efficient manner

  • Experience in performing in an Agile environment and knowledge/understanding of JIRA

Salary Range: $143,800.00 - $215,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
