Northrop Grumman has an exciting opening for a Manager Mechanical Engineering 2 to join our team in Plymouth, MN.
Location:
This position requires on-site support. Selected candidate will need to be within commuting distance to our site in Plymouth, MN. Relocation assistance may be available if selected candidate is not local.
Responsibilities of this role:
Lead and develop a team of material process engineers and structural engineers as well as Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Technicians within the Design Engineering (DE) department. This Team supports all Northrop Grumman Armament Systems and Missile Products programs in the product areas of guided and precision munitions as well as fuzing and warheads.
Specific responsibilities and desired experience include:
- Drive Team technical excellence in materials process and structural engineering. Balance group workload and staffing requirements to meet current and future program needs. Staff all programs.
- Coach direct reports in the areas of career development, performance, and teamwork.
- Provide training and development opportunities. Provide continual feedback and quarterly performance communications.
- Effectively lead a diverse team of materials process and structural engineers and NDT in a dynamic product development environment.
- Possess SME level skills in materials process and/or structural engineering.
- Effectively represent our organization at sector level reviews of products and policies.
- Have depth of knowledge in US DoD product development and acquisition approaches.
- Desire to balance people management needs and technical contributor aspects of this position and an ability to move fluidly between these roles.
- Have experience with fast-paced agile team engagement on development and production.
- Maintain a “learning organization” where each team member is expected to teach and learn.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
- At least 9 years of Engineering experience, 7 years with MS degree, 4 years with PhD
- Working knowledge of computer aided design (CAD) software, preferably Creo
- Familiarity or working knowledge of ANSYS, Abaqus or similar FEA programs.
- Current or eligible for DoD Secret Security Clearance
- Team management and/or Integrated Product Team (IPT) leadership experience.
Desired Qualifications:
- MSME, MBA
- Department team leadership, supervisory, or people management experience.
