Space Forge is a fast growing advanced materials company. Our goal is to exploit the extreme temperature, microgravity and ultra-high vacuum conditions available in low earth orbit (LEO) to manufacture materials that cannot readily be grown terrestrially. Returning these materials to earth, we aim to revolutionise the semiconductor market and to make space work for humanity. To achieve this we have developed a range of technologies including the world’s first returnable and reusable satellite platform, the ForgeStar®.

We have a highly qualified and passionate core team who are developing the technologies and business simultaneously and we are in need of a Pressure System Test Engineer to join us as we develop our test planning and procedures.

What will you do?

  • Managing the full life cycle of tests on various components and systems used in our space missions, from test definition and procedure writing to performing the tests and reporting results
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to evaluate system performance and troubleshoot issues
  • Defining best practice for  compliance with safety regulations and industry standards
  • Participating in design reviews and providing input on system design and integration

Key responsibilities

  • Leading all aspects of pressure systems testing and qualification.
  • Test campaign management including planning test specifications for systems, sub-systems, and key technologies. Specifically focussed on pressurised systems.
  • Execution of tests on satellite systems and key technologies. Specifically focussed on pressurised systems.
  • Communicating with other specialties within Space Forge to guide the definition of tests and to relay the results of tests
  • Implementation of safety protocols for handling pressurised systems and producing risk assessments for planned tests.

Requirements

Essential -

  • Experience working with pressure systems and conducting pressure tests
  • Strong knowledge of testing techniques and equipment

Desirable -

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Experience in data analysis and reporting
  • Experience with CAD software
  • Experience of testing for extreme environments (such as thermal vacuum testing)
  • Experience of working with DSEAR

  • Able to communicate with teams working both on-site and remote;
  • Able to communicate professionally with customers and external stakeholders;
  • Resilient and adaptable to technical and non-technical roadblocks, as many are expected
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with precision
  • Good communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Willingness to learn new concepts and technologies

Salary range: £33,000 - £35,000  depending on knowledge, experience and skills

This role will be based mostly on site due to the hands-on testing requirements of the role.
