POSITION SUMMARY

Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. Our air-launched, Talon testbeds are reusable, cost-effective platforms that enable routine access to the hypersonic environment. We deliver flight data critical to validating system performance and achieving rapid technology deployment. Together with our customers, we drive innovations that are imperative to advancing national security.
To help achieve these efforts, Stratolaunch is seeking a Level I, Level II, or Sr-Level Structural Engineer to own and support design, analysis, and modification of the Roc Carrier Aircraft structure. This position will focus on both the development of new structural design from concept to execution, as well as upgrades and maintenance of legacy Roc structure.
As a Roc Carrier Aircraft Structural Engineer, you will contribute to a small design team. Your tasking may include conceptual design trade studies, detailed design tasks, testing, and integration support.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Execute end-to-end structure projects comprising of design, analysis, manufacturing, test, & inspection for modification & development of new designs
  • Execute structural analysis, justification, &/or modification of legacy Roc Aircraft structure for envelope expansion and maintainability
  • Perform hand calculations to size design and support detailed design
  • Perform detail design, procure parts, advocate design through review process, document design
  • Evaluate requirement needs or problem statements and propose solutions
  • Evaluate both technical and programmatic risk for potential solutions
  • Develop design and analysis tools, as needed, to complete tasking
  • Test project as required, lead testing, evaluate data and hold closeout reviews
  • Prepare project for flight and brief status at Flight Readiness Reviews and other similar events
  • Travel, as needed, to support the company.

Required Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: structural design, structural analysis, aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration, component or assembly level structural testing.
  • Ability to analyze designs using hand calculations
  • Experience with part design and manufacturing methods
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges and provide interface guidance to varied audiences
  • Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals
  • Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities
  • U.S. Person status
Required Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency with CAD (Catia V5, Solidworks, NX, etc.)
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience developing & testing primary and secondary structure
  • Experience building FEMs and performing primary and/or secondary structure FEA
  • Dispositioning Nonconformance Issues
  • Hands-on aircraft build, pilot, flight test experience
  • Aircraft and/or launch vehicle development experience
Preferred Computer Skills:
  • Familiarity with configuration management systems – Jira preferred
  • Structural Analysis Tools (FEMAP & NASTRAN)
  • Scripting languages (Python, Matlab, or similar)


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Level I ($65,000-$94,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 0-2 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Level II ($81,000-$118,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-5 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Sr Level ($102,000-$148,000): Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 5-10 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience
Special remarks regarding work environment, if applicable
  • Position on-site based in Mojave, CA.
  • Travel, as needed, to support the department.  Travel estimated to be <5%

Mojave Air & Spaceport is located 95 miles north of Los Angeles. Wine aficionados will also find easy access to some of the state’s best vino in Paso Robles, Santa Ynez, and even more locally in Tehachapi and Agua Dulce. Beer fanatics will find some of the best West Coast IPAs at Bravery and Lucky Luke’s in Lancaster. Any food option you crave is covered, and we always recommend the authentic and fresh Mexican food that you won’t find anywhere else in the United States.
