EchoStar is looking for an Entry Level Cybersecurity Engineer to help secure our products throughout the application development life cycle. This position will be located at our headquarters in Germantown, MD.

Responsibilities:

Security Tracking:

  • Tracking status and progress of critical/major security-related defects
  • Periodic Summary status reports and review

Vulnerability Management

  • Source Code security scanning with tools such as SonarQube, Snyk and Klocworks
  • Recurring internal Penetration Testing for new products and major releases
  • Recurring support for Penetration Testing for external testing for new products
  • Recurring Terminal Port Scans for Open ports
  • Application Programming Interface (API) security testing
  • Support of Host-based Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) and Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions in labs
  • Security Audit Checks and Compliance in labs and production using Ansible Playbooks
  • Public IP Security Scanning of production satellite sites
  • Recurring Red team Security Scanning of labs

Secure Development

  • Fuzz Testing development and scripting of automated tests
  • Password Manager for customer system remote access using Delinea and Okta
  • Assist developers in assessing and prioritizing vulnerability remediation
  • Security Process Improvements
  • Reevaluate Security Posture and update Software Security and Information Assurance (IA) Policies
  • Generate Disaster and Ransomware Recovery Procedures
  • Generate Lab Incident Response and Recovery Procedures
  • Capture and Evaluate Security Software Maturity Metrics

Requirements:

  • A bachelor's in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity or other related field;
  • 0-3 years of experience in an application development or cybersecurity related position

Preferred qualifications:

  • Cybersecurity certification such as: CISSP, CAP, CASE, CEH, Security+, or a SANS GIAC certification
  • Functional knowledge of one or more of the following: Open Worldwide Application Security Project (OWASP) Top Ten, Vulnerability Scanning, Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), DevSecOps and Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), Center for Internet Security (CIS) Critical Security Controls, Linux operating systems such as Ubuntu, CentOS, Red Hat and/or open-source security tools.
  • Knowledge of Linux and scripting
  • Basic knowledge of programming languages, such as Python, C/C++,  or Java
  • Experience in using process automation tools including Ansible, Jenkins
  • Effective interpersonal skills and an ability to work relatively independently

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
