Job description

Location: Helsinki, Finland

Hiring Model: Hybrid

Who are we?

ICEYE is an International New Space company headquartered in Finland with colleagues from over 57 countries. Our team is a tight-knit group of experts across many disciplines (e.g., engineering, software development, radar technology, etc.). We’re innovative, driven people who strive for excellence in everything we do. Teamwork, curiosity, and having fun are core values to Making the impossible possible in New Space. Join our team today!

What we do?

ICEYE is building and operating its commercial constellation of small Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites with SAR data available to customers. Our satellites acquire images of Earth at any time – even when it’s cloudy or dark – providing commercial and government partners with unmatched persistent monitoring capabilities. Information derived from our SAR images helps customers make data-driven decisions to address time-critical challenges in various sectors, such as maritime, disaster management, insurance, and finance.

What will you do in this role?

As ICEYE undergoes rapid expansion, transitioning from prototype construction to mass satellite production, the Principal Manufacturing Engineer brings invaluable expertise and insight to facilitate and steer this growth trajectory. Embracing this evolution will necessitate a shift in existing methodologies and mindsets to align with the demands of scalability and efficiency.

In this position, you will assume responsibility for addressing production and process challenges, taking charge of devising solutions and overseeing their implementation.

ICEYE's Manufacturing and Production operations extend across multiple countries, presenting both opportunities and obstacles. To effectively navigate this landscape, optimization strategies must prioritize maximizing agility, autonomy, and seamless integration across the entirety of the operation. You will play a pivotal role in determining the optimal approach to achieve this objective.

Requirements

We're looking for:

  • A technical engineering background in a pertinent field relevant to ICEYE
  • Extensive expertise in mechanics and electronics assembly, with a deep understanding of complex physical products, with level of proficiency that allows you to seamlessly operate within any phase of the manufacturing process
  • Previous experience in all phases of manufacturing and have seen the early phase bootstrapping phases of manufacturing to large scale optimization phases
  • A strong grasp of lean manufacturing principles, and your approach to work is deeply influenced by its practical applications
  • Extensive experience in quality management across all stages of manufacturing processes, spanning from supplier quality to final product quality. During which, you've witnessed the evolution from initial phase quality methodologies to a more refined and mature approach over time
  • Exude high energy and influence, possessing the ability to not only inspire others to embrace change but also to actively lead and propel it forward
  • A mindset with primary focus on maximizing business impact, and having the ability to showcase this through your demonstrated experience
  • Possessing numerous instances of successfully driving significant changes in manufacturing processes and development. Ideally, also having experiences of failures, providing valuable learning opportunities
  • Working in earlier phase manufacturing, ability to navigate the phases of needing to go fast while improving the approach continuously
  • An adaptable communication style, allowing you to effectively engage with technicians as well as executives

Good to have:

  • Experience or knowledge in the Space Industry

Don't hesitate to apply, even if you don't tick all the boxes. Your enthusiasm and potential matter most to us!

We believe every member on our team enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways to understand and engage with the world, identify challenges, and discover, design, and deliver solutions.

  • A job that matters in a dynamic New Space environment with a scale-up approach
  • An independent role with a supportive and diverse work environment
  • Occupational healthcare, occupational and private insurance
  • A yearly benefit budget to spend as you wish (i.e. on sport, transport, bike benefit, wellness, lunch, etc.)
  • Phone subscription with iPhone of choice
  • Relocation support (i.e. flight tickets, accommodation, relocation agency support)
  • Time for self-development, research, training, conferences, or certification schemes
