Vast is looking for an Avionics Software Test Engineer, reporting to the Staff Hardware Development Engineer, to support the development of systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.
This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Avionics and Software teams to design, build, and execute hardware testing of space components for the Haven space station.
- Develop comprehensive test plans and procedures for avionics software and hardware testing, considering functional requirements, design specifications, and industry standards.
- Design and implement automated test scripts and frameworks to streamline testing processes and enhance efficiency.
- Perform root cause analysis of issues identified during testing and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve them in a timely manner.
- Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in avionics testing methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or other engineering discipline
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Strong proficiency in software testing methodologies, test automation tools, and programming languages (e.g., Python, C/C++, LabVIEW).
- Familiarity with basic electrical and wiring concepts such as circuits, grounding, and electrical safety.
- A strong understanding of software architecture and design principles.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to document and explain complex technical issues clearly and concisely.
- Extensive knowledge of avionics hardware, including embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces.
- Experience with testing protocols and standards relevant to space systems (e.g., DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-1553).
- Experience with agile software development methodologies and DevOps practices.
- Familiarity with the Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Bitbucket, Confluence).
- Familiarity with Git, Cmake, and GNU tools.
- Able to work in a Linux environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
Pay Range:
- Avionics Software Test Engineer L1: $105,000-$135,000
- Avionics Software Test Engineer L2: $130,000-$165,000
