This position is part of the rapidly growing Electro-Optics Infrared (EO/IR) Mission Systems team within BR&T. This team has more than quadrupled in size over the past 18 months due to new contract wins, and continues to see increased demand from Boeing’s customers. We’re designing, building, and testing cutting edge sensor systems for airborne and space platforms.  Our focus is always on the mission – connecting people through safer air travel and protection of the warfighter from its adversaries. This isn’t your typical Boeing team – we are focused on the entire lifecycle of design: from modeling and simulation of new ideas, through prototype demonstrations, and eventually transitioning to production systems.

Our team provides complete engineering solutions to Boeing and its customers, including systems engineering, optics design, mechanical design, algorithms, software development, firmware development, electronics, and advanced system modeling and simulations. We are seeking both a Lead or Senior Structures and Integration Engineer in Huntington Beach, California with experience in the development of structures for space and airborne platforms to support the development of Payload Structures, Integration and Test Engineering for optical sensing systems.

Responsibilities will include supporting manufacturing engineering and electro-mechanical engineering integration activities. Candidates should have experience with all phases of structural engineering including a broad knowledge of design, stress analysis, certification, and engineering principles. Candidates should also have experience collaborating with other Integrated Product Teams to execute strategy of growth, on-time delivery, and technical excellence as well as extensive experience in performing engineering work.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to lead activities to plan, design, develop and verify complex lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions
  • Evaluates customer/operational needs to define system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces
  • Performs structural and integration engineering for entire lifecycle of the product including support of ConOps development and product design, development, and test
  • Provides guidance and direction to develop, integrate and document structural and interior payload system requirements to establish the system design
  • Supports project management activities including schedule development, status reporting and coordination of engineering and development activities
  • Interfaces with customers, internal/external suppliers and partners and executive management for the purpose of technical collaboration, reviews and reporting of status
  • Leads analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture
  • Leads and coordinates analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success
  • Leads, develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, software configuration management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes
  • Plans and leads research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements
  • Leads performance, integration, and analysis of tests to validate and verify systems and components meet requirements and specifications
  • Assists with investigation of emerging technologies to develop concept for future product designs to meet projected requirements
  • Works under minimal direction

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret / SSBI clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
  • 9+ years of experience in mechanical engineering
  • 9+ years of experience evaluating satellite system architectures and payload technologies for integration on to satellites
  • 9+ years of experience in software system integration and test
  • 9+ years of experience integrating designs from multi-skill teams (electrical, mechanical, software)
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading teams of junior and peer engineers

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 15+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Active U.S. Top Secret / SSBI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)
  • Experience applying structures and integration engineering principles during the development of complex hardware/software solutions on an aerospace platform
  • Experience writing requirements for mechanical systems
  • Experience developing mechanical products for space-based applications
  • Experience leading multi-functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with mechanical and structures level requirement specifications for air and space applications
  • Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML
  • Experience providing mechanical engineering for research and development contracts

Typical Education/Experience: 
 

Level 5 (Lead):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Level 6 (Senior):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range Lead Level: $143,650 - $194,350

Summary pay range Senior Level: $178,500 – $241,500
