EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Science Engineer in our Hughes Network Systems division.  This position is located in our Germantown, MD office.

Job Responsibilities:

• Be responsible for the overall design, development, and deployment of data science application projects, as well as managing project timelines, resources, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
• Plan, execute, and manage data science projects from conception to completion to include: defining project scopes, objectives, and deliverable; ensuring alignment with business goals; developing project plans, timelines, and resource allocation strategies; monitoring project progress; and proactively identifying and addressing potential issues or delays.
• Create detailed project timelines and milestones, setting clear expectations for project teams and end-users; prioritize tasks and allocate resources effectively to meet project deadlines and regularly update project stakeholders on progress and potential adjustments to timelines.
• Plan for the development and tuning of artificial intelligence and deep learning models using libraries such as scikit-learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow. Leverage emerging deep learning models, such as Large Language Models, to solve complex business problems within enterprise network operations.
• Evaluate available external vendors for cloud services, such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Azure to identify opportunities to implement cost-efficient hosting for ETL pipelines; on a quarterly basis, plan for the upgrade of legacy applications into the latest technical stack. Be responsible for all project documentation including requirements, methodologies, and outcomes using Atlassian tool stack, such as JIRA and Bitbucket; implement processes to distribute documentation and facilitate knowledge sharing between different internal teams to ensure a cohesive project environment.
• Plan and implement overall quality assurance processes to validate data science models, end-user applications, and their performance on different cloud platforms; coordinate the testing and validation effort to ensure the accuracy and reliability of developed solutions.
• Collaborate with multiple engineering teams to understand the underlying business problems that can be solved using Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning techniques and translate them into technical tasks for the data science team.
• Plan and implement cloud-based version controls for code and data pipelines, to include continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD), metadata management, and Identity Access Management.
• Provide support to the company’s data governance and regulatory compliance efforts through leveraging the GCP’s certification and compliance features to track data lineage and to create and maintain audit logs.
• Remain current with advancements in the realm of artificial intelligence and engineering technologies and regularly attend major technical conferences.

Basic Requirements: 

• Masters degree in a field of Computer Science or Data Science and 2 years of experience in the position or in a related Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Operations Research Analyst, or Software Development position.
• As an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in a field of Computer Science or Data Science and five years of experience in the position or in a related Data Scientist, Data Analyst, Operations Research Analyst, or Software Development position will be acceptable.

Special Requirements: 

• 2 years of experience gained in the use of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and the related tools GCP BigQuery ML, Google Kubernetes Engine and Cloud Build.
• 2 years of experience employing industry standard version control tools GIT, JIRA, and Confluence.
• 2 years of experience gained in producing machine learning algorithms in TensorFlow, scikit-learn.
