Maxar is looking to add a Deputy Project Manager to our team to support a customer who has a fast-paced and exciting mission within the Intelligence Community. The role is based in Reston, Virginia where we maintain an intimate relationship with this project’s primary customer. We have a very talented team of software developers and analytic subject matter experts, and we are looking to add a strong communicator and leader to help us manage and deliver quality solutions to our customers.

The Deputy Project Manager will work with the Project Manager to lead a team comprised of technical experts supporting an established and growing Intelligence Community (IC) mission. You will need to stay abreast of customer needs, requirements, priorities, financials and project initiatives, as well as manage the personnel from a staffing/resourcing perspective and in their personal/career growth.

Day-to-Day with your Colleagues: 

 

The Deputy Program Manager will work alongside the Project Manager and the government leadership team to assist in the strategic management of the team. The Deputy Project Manager will be expected to: 
 

  • Guide the high-level strategy that the PM has set in place by helping the customer, Maxar leadership team, and team members understand their role in that strategy and what success looks like for their particular role.  

  • Assist with tracking financials, to include forecasting, managing estimates at completion, managing project burn rates, while aligning with corporate initiatives and customer priorities.  

  • Assist PM with management of subcontractors, to include communications/feedback with subs, collection of monthly deliverables, and coordination with subcontracts and finance to manage subcontract relationship. 

  • Assist PM with project management tasks, as needed, by maintaining high level understanding of all projects and their current status, and general requirements management through customer and team engagements and feedback sessions. 

  • Forster an atmosphere of inclusivity and growth mindset that aligns team members skillsets with tasks they enjoy, while challenging them to grow. Be cognizant of ways to contribute to the team members’ sense of belonging and be intentional in supporting activities that create that type of culture.  

  • Assist PM with personnel management to include performance management reviews focused on understanding each team members motivation and objectives, alignment to opportunities that support those objectives, willingness to provide corrective action when necessary, through the lens of making the individual and team better. Additionally, management of leave, expenses, and ad hoc personnel needs is expected.  

  • Assist PM with contract management, to include communication with appropriate parties (customer program management team, Maxar contracting team, security, talent acquisition, etc.) to ensure execution aligns with contractual requirements. Ensure team delivers on contractual requirements through the weekly activity reports, monthly activity reports, and monthly status reports. Assist with hiring, onboarding, off boarding, and any other personnel pipeline needs that support the general functionality of the contract.  

 

Minimum Requirements 

 

  • Current/active TS/SCI security clearance w/CI Polygraph. 

  • Understanding of product and project lifecycle management within an agile environment. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a creative approach. 

  • Experience in requirements gathering, analysis, and documentation. 

  • Experience managing team level financials, to include forecasts, budgets, and resourcing. 

  • Must be willing to act as functional project manager, as needed, and be aware of and able to balance all contract needs, to include financial, personnel, project, customer priorities, and corporate objectives.  

  • Must be a highly motivated, self-driven team player who understands how to manage expectations, communicate clearly and timely, and motivate team members and leadership alike to help drive mission initiatives forward.  

  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication, coordination and collaboration, time management and organizational skills. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

 

  • Bachelor's or master's Degree in business or management field, or Project Management Certification.  

  • Project Management background preferred.  

  • Experience working on-site at a customer location, especially DoD or IC. 

  • Familiarity managing hybrid teams with a broad array of skillsets. 

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within or lead a team of peers, as well as excellent interpersonal and communications skills. 

  • Ability to communicate highly technical analyses at a level comprehensible to non-technical audiences and senior-level government representatives. 

  • Military or defense-related experience and an understanding of operational planning and functional defeat of hard targets. 

 

 

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate’s unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:

$115,000.00 - $192,000.00 annually.
