Job Overview & Responsibilities

  • Directs and leads the following production teams in the Decatur Factory: Booster Weld and Structures (aluminum weld, Vulcan Thrust Structure, cryo, & hydro) & Booster IACO (Final Assembly and LO2 Skirt).
  • Focus on strategic and tactical coordination across operations and functional support organizations to achieve short and longer-term operational and business objectives.
  • Formulates strategies and coordinates priorities and capabilities to ensure the production plan is executed to meet or exceed Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost objectives.
  • Serves as a voting member for POCB/KCB (Production Operations Change Board/Kuiper Change Board), Prod Ops Certification Board, SORB (Suspension of Operations Review Board), Prod Ops CAB (Corrective Action Board).
  • Accountable for CI (Continuous Improvement) for the Boster Weld & IACO teams.
  • Responsible for driving support staff and production Leadership to quick reaction/solution to production issues that result in a work stoppage as well as eliminate reoccurrences.
  • Translates strategies into actionable objectives and business plans to include identification of equipment and technologies necessary to meet cost and delivery commitments.
  • Drives operational efficiencies and improvement activities that add value to the manufacturing value stream and ensure effective returns on assets/investments.
  • Leads and develops employees, including mentoring and coaching.
  • Builds and develops a capable workforce of high-performing work teams, utilizing perfect product delivery concepts.
  • Ensures work areas are well organized and set up for productivity with a 5S mindset that is sustained.

Required Education

Bachelor

Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 8 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Operational familiarity with shop operating software such as SAP or similar ERP system.
  • Work with production and support teams to initiate corrective action for problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Ability to mentor newer leaders and employees.
  • Strategic thinker with demonstrated ability to translate strategies into operational processes and outcomes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively lead and develop teams in the attainment of operational, business, and talent development objectives.
  • Experience being a purposeful and strategic leader that can drive change and create a unity of purpose.
  • Experience multi-tasking and working across multi-faceted teams.
  • Ability to prioritize activities when competing priorities arise and communicate decisions appropriately and effectively.
  • Proven ability to work with Peer Leaders.
  • Ability to develop, present, and articulate ideas and presentations to executive staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous factory or production leadership experience in flight vehicle assembly and test coupled with overall understanding of manufacturing processes is preferred.
  • Previous Casual Analysis experience.
  • Experience with manufacturing techniques and assemblies.
  • Experience coordinating various Production issues with Launch Sites and Denver Design Engineering as necessary.
  • Experience working in a production environment.
  • Experience working in a union environment, preferably with the IAM.
