Job Overview & Responsibilities

Provides Safety, Health, and Environmental Affairs (SHEA) compliance support services for the ULA enterprise, including but not limited to operations in Decatur, AL, Cape Canaveral, FL, Denver, CO, Vandenberg SFB, CA, and Pueblo, CO. This includes routine travel to Cape Canaveral, FL and Vandenberg, CA to support launch campaigns.

  • Continually evaluates workplace conditions to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standards.
  • Implements policies and procedures to ensure work practices are in compliance with appropriate statutes and regulations and that reporting requirements are met.
  • Participates in OSHA inspections and any procedures that follow a citation.
  • Investigates and prepares reports for injuries and illnesses.
  • Leads/participates in occupational health and safety risk assessments.
  • Supports new projects and installations by identifying risk and mitigation opportunities.
  • Interprets occupational health and safety data/statistics and implements strategic plans to reduce risks.
  • Conducts regular audits and inspections and provides recommendations for improvement.
  • Evaluates/maintains key hazard control programs including Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space entry, Hazard Communication, Fall Protection, Machine Guarding, etc.
  • Utilizes instrumentation to evaluate air and noise hazards; has ability to interpret results and recommend corrective actions based on results.
  • Oversees contractor safety program.
  • Conducts safety training and education programs and demonstrates proper use of safety equipment.
  • Serves on plant safety committee and participates in meetings with management and employee representatives.

Required Education

Bachelor

Required Years of Experience

Minimum of 4 years of related work experience

Basic Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least four years’ relevant experience in roles such as occupational safety and health program administration highly desired.
  • Experience in operation of Environmental and Safety Management Systems highly desired.
  • Familiarity with methods and techniques used in collecting, reviewing, analyzing, and interpreting safety and health data.
  • Knowledge of the basic principles, practices, and techniques of administering a safety program.
  • Ability to recognize and evaluate safety and health hazards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in administration of Behavioral Based Safety program.
  • Experience with both construction and general industry safety standards.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental rules and regulations.
