Join the Tactical Space Systems Division in a challenging and rewarding role as a Senior Principal Mission Communication Lead Systems Engineer. Support small-class space vehicles enabling national security at our Dulles, VA campus.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as lead (responsible engineer) for a space vehicle mission communication subsystem

  • Provide technical expertise to development of mission communication subsystem specification ensuring system will meeting mission objectives

  • Responsible for design, interface documentation, analysis, test planning, for space-based mission communications subsystems

  • Collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to develop interface supporting Government Furnished communication hardware

  • Identify gaps to existing data routing and processing hardware/software elements needed to meet mission requirements

  • Provide technical leadership to development of new data routing and processing hardware/software features to meet mission requirements

Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in a STEM area (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) and 9+ years of experience or a master’s degree and 7+ years of experience.

  • Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and practices

  • Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

  • Must have an active or current Top Secret U.S. Government Security Clearance with SCI eligibility.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with space communication and networking standards (CCSDS, TCP/IP)

  • Experience with integration of space or airborne platform communications hardware, avionics, and/or software

  • Experience with communications system engineering (link budgets, data budgets, requirements, interfaces)

  • Experience with optical and RF communication systems

  • Experience with integrating with open ground architectures and SCN ICD 0508

  • Proven ability to lead technical development activities

  • Active or current TS/SCI U.S. Government Security Clearance.

Salary Range: $133,000.00 - $199,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
