SUMMARY

Firefly has year-round engineering focused internship opportunities for our launch location in Vandenberg, CA. Both current undergrads and new graduates are encouraged to apply. As a Firefly Intern, you will support Responsible Engineers through all stages of component and system design including, preliminary concept, sizing, detail design, architecture layout, and drawing creation.

Ideal candidates will have knowledge in specific areas such as Mechanical Design, Electrical Engineering, Fluid Systems, Testing, Propulsion systems, or Software Development. You will have the opportunity gain design experience developing novel solutions for challenging problems. se positions requires high levels of creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. The ability to communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural group is an absolute must.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop new innovative design concepts for our launch vehicle testing and launch facilities
  • Use engineering principles and fundamentals to provide novel solutions for technically challenging problems in the Internship focus area (Structural Design, Test, and Electrical Engineering, Fluid Systems, Test and Launch Operations, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Must be currently enrolled in either a BS or MS program (or a recent graduate) at an accredited four-year university or college.
  • Willing to work in a hands-on, constantly evolving environment
  • Detail orientated, managing multiple priorities while maintaining focus towards a common goal
  • Strong comprehension of design fundamentals Aerospace experience a plus
  • Communicates effectively, verbal and written
  • Able to effectively prioritize and execute tasks

Desired:

Candidates should preferably have a focus in one of the following areas

  • 3D CAD and Structural Design
  • Knowledge in specific areas such as fluid systems, test and data acquisition
  • Electrical or Computer Engineering background

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
