SUMMARY

Firefly is seeking a Mission Operations Engineer to support flight operations for spacecraft (Blue Ghost and Elytra missions). This role will help develop all flight and in-space operations based on payload and spacecraft requirements and timelines. After launch, the Mission Operations Engineer will support the mission on console, ensuring the successful completion of all requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop the plan for and timeline of spacecraft operations from LV separation to end-of-mission
  • Develop spacecraft operational procedures, software, and scripts with input from subsystem teams
  • Develop contingency procedures for fault response and anomaly resolution
  • Develop and maintain tools to perform validation of operational plans
  • Support the execution of all spacecraft activities on console during active mission operations including checkouts and commissioning; payload science activities; maneuvers; and lunar surface operations
  • Support pre-launch integration and test activities
  • Support development (requirements, design, procurement, build) of infrastructure for spacecraft mission operations
  • Have a strong Systems Engineering understanding of the ground and flight hardware to best understand how operations impact vehicle performance and survivability.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 3-5 years of hands-on engineering operations and control room experience
  • Demonstrated experience with a full spacecraft mission life cycle, from pre-launch testing and early operations through end-of-life
  • Demonstrated experience working with interdisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in Python

Desired

  • 5-10 years of experience in one of the following: spacecraft systems engineering, spacecraft or launch vehicle operations, engineering program management, or remotely operated vehicles
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite of software
  • Proficient with spacecraft Integration and Test, incorporating flight-like scenarios into the test environment.
