Role Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vehicle Design Lead to join our dynamic team. As the prime contractor for the NASA Lunar Terrain Vehicle mission, Intuitive Machines is responsible for leading the design, development, and integration of cutting-edge technologies alongside our Moon RACER global team of companies including AVL, Boeing, Michelin, & Northrop Grumman. The Vehicle Design Lead will play a pivotal role in driving the vehicle design architecture, overseeing various aspects of system integration, and ensuring the successful execution of the project.

Responsibilities:

  1. Vehicle Design Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance in the design and development of the Lunar Terrain Vehicle, ensuring adherence to project goals, specifications, and timelines.
  2. Systems Integration: Oversee the integration of advanced technologies, including power management systems, autonomous driving capabilities, communications systems, and navigation systems, into the vehicle architecture.
  3. Collaborative Partnership: Work closely with global team partners, including AVL, Boeing, Michelin, and Northrop Grumman, to coordinate design efforts, resolve technical challenges, and optimize system performance.
  4. Systems Engineering: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, develop design concepts, and ensure compliance with NASA standards and regulations.
  5. Technical Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert in vehicle design and engineering, leveraging extensive experience to identify innovative solutions and mitigate design risks.
  6. Risk Management: Proactively identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the successful execution of the project.
  7. Quality Assurance: Implement rigorous quality control processes to ensure the reliability, safety, and performance of the RACER rover in lunar exploration missions.
  8. Documentation and Reporting: Generate technical documentation, reports, and presentations to communicate design concepts, progress updates, and key findings to internal stakeholders and NASA representatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in vehicle design, aerospace engineering, or a related field, with a proven track record of leadership and achievement in complex engineering projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of spacecraft design principles, vehicle dynamics, propulsion systems, and thermal management systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and simulation tools for structural analysis, thermal analysis, and system integration.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, with a demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing priorities.
  • Familiarity with NASA standards, regulations, and mission requirements is highly desirable.
