Job description

As a Structures Engineer for Helios tanks, you will be responsible for cradle-to-grave ownership of the primary structure of Impulse’s next generation kick stage, capable of delivering 5 metric tons to GEO.

Responsibilities

Own all aspects of tank and primary structure design for a cryogenic rocket tank assembly
Perform sizing and first order structural analysis on primary and secondary structures
Perform trade studies on manufacturing methods including friction stir welding, laser welding, forming, and machining
Proactively guide the design integration of fluid and electrical subsystems into the vehicle architecture
Formulate strategies and provide direct support for structural qualification and acceptance testing campaigns
Work with the team and external sources to procure materials, fabricate parts, and complete assemblies
Work with internal manufacturing group and external suppliers to produce designs
Update designs and documentation to support continuous improvement

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in engineering or science
5+ years of experience in mechanical design
Proficiency in CAD software with ability to learn new tools
Ability to model complex shapes including lofting and surfacing
Capable of performing basic structural and thermal analysis in support of design
Demonstrated ability in conceptual design, fabrication and testing of hardware
Understanding of dimensioning and tolerancing
In order to be successful in this role, you should be someone who is uniquely creative, self-driven, and is able to lead his or her own projects to completion
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across different teams
Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

Prior experience in liquid cryogenic rocket tank development
Prior experience with friction stir welding and/or laser welding
Prior experience in high performance, cost and mass optimized hardware design
Experience defining and conducting development tests
Experience defining testing instrumentation, including strain gages and TCs/RTDs
Experience in a startup or agile development environment
Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
