Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Propulsion Division is looking for a Principal/Sr. Principal Project Engineer to join our team at our facility in either Kennedy Space Center, FL or Promontory, UT in support of NASA’s Space Launch System (SLS) for the Artemis Program.
Description & Responsibilities:
SLS Project Engineering is responsible for the establishment and execution of technical aspects of Engineering Development, Qualification, and Production of the Space Launch System Boosters on NASA’s manned Artemis Program. This position will support the management of the technical products and aspects associated with the design, engineering & manufacturing development, qualification, and production of the SLS Boosters. The SLS program is a flight development program offering the potential for the Project Engineer to work with a variety of resources/teams and witness the entirety of the engineering lifecycle. The SLS program is currently seeking a Project Engineer to support current Project Engineering positions in both the unpressurized Major Structures and Integrated Forward Assembly disciplines.
Job Duties:
Design authority for the respective IPT reporting to the relevant Project Engineers as well as the Structures and Integrated Engineering Chief Engineers.
Coordinates across IPTs with fellow PEs on design, process, and quality of the product
Develop program execution plans and works closely with the relevant Project Engineers and Program Office
Ability to work with a wide range of positions both within and outside of NGC
Supports production operations (manufacturing and quality)
Development, coordination, and allocation of requirements
Assemble and develop efficient cross functional teams to execute plans
Identify design concepts and mature into design solutions that meet the customer needs
Develop master schedules, integrated logic flows, work breakdown, and assist in program cost estimates.
Coordination and implementation of design and analysis activities
Development of test plans and coordination of testing with test engineers
Identification of risks/mitigations and tracking to closure in Risk Tracker
Assist in the coordination and conducting of milestones reviews to Senior Leadership and Customers
Lead problem and failure investigations
Write technical reports
Presentations – internal and external
Ability to Travel expectation of 5% – 10%

Experienced / knowledgeable of configuration management principles and practices
Be capable of communicating and representing their IPT clearly and concisely with Senior Leadership and Customers
Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years experience in rocket systems or other relevant aerospace design
Strong understanding of aerospace vehicle design, development, and manufacture
Demonstrated experience with problem solving, problem investigation teams and critical decision making skills
Strong understanding and broad application of PS engineering systems (engineering standards, configuration management, material review board, process control, tooling, facilities, software, etc.) or equivalent
Demonstrated experience in generating technical solutions in the absence of complete customer requirements
Management of engineering scope as it pertains to budgeting and participation in EVMS evaluations
Strong verbal and written communication skills including demonstrated experience with high value customer presentations
Demonstrated team leadership skills - leader of significant technical projects or investigations and management of multiple program tasks to schedule and budget
Experience with the proposal process
Knowledge and experience in System Engineering tools and disciplines
Ability to perform solid modeling using NX
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
BS degree in Engineering required and 5 years’ experience with BS; 3 Years with Masters; 0 with a Ph.D.
Position can be filled one level higher, 9 years’ experience with a BS, 7 years with a MS or 5 years with a Ph.D.
U.S citizenship required
