AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.

Summary:

One focus area of the Space AST mission is to provide tools, resources, and environments that cultivate safe, efficient, healthy behaviors and encourage individuals to manage their health and well-being. To support this focus area, AST seeks a full-time WHS Specialist to lead and implement all AST Space Mobile Safety Program areas as directed by the leadership. The Safety Specialist will promote a safe culture while complying with AST standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes delivering training and coaching associates on observed work habits. 

The EHS Coordinator must deliver accurate daily, weekly, and monthly safety metrics to report to onsite management teams and AST-based reporting safety systems. The Safety Specialist must become a key partner with the management's team to ensure compliance with all Safety Programs, Policies and Procedures, and applicable federal & state laws. The Safety Specialist also conducts risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment on site. In addition, the Safety Specialist is responsible for sharing safety controls and appropriate risk mitigation measures with leadership teams, including ergonomics. Candidate must be willing to work any shift, based on availability.  This is an hourly position with an hourly range of $25-$35 based on experience. 

Duties and Responsibilities:​ 

  • Support management efforts to ensure compliance with all Safety Programs, Training, inspections and internal and external audits, and applicable federal and state laws.  
  • Facilitate organization and leadership development efforts to address the root cause of EHS-related issues.  
  • Training and assisting others (managers, employees) in completing their safety and compliance responsibilities.  
  • Responding to and investigating events, including injuries and near-miss events. Drive closure of corrective/preventive actions.  
  • Conduct risk assessments related to jobs performed (Job Hazard Analysis) and new equipment process and provide safety preventative controls.  
  • Conducting environmental compliance site audits of hazardous waste program facilities and solid waste facilities, as assigned; 
  • Responsible for recommending appropriate risk mitigation measures to management, including ergonomics.    
  • Representing the company with regulatory agencies such as OSHA.  
  • Perform other duties, as assigned, supporting the EHS Strategic Plan. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

  • Available to work flexible shifts, including days, nights, and weekends 
  • A minimum of 2-3 years in an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) related field or a bachelor's degree in EHS-relevant background 
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, specifically 29 CFR 1910 
  • Experience using Microsoft Word and Excel in a professional capacity 
  • Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security and personnel issues in the workplace 
  • Has critical thinking and problem-solving skills but can understand the department's objectives. 
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgment, and customer-focus skills 

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in a safety-related field 
  • Experience leading and managing a team ability to analyze accident data, new processes, and machinery for potential safety concerns and conduct job hazard and job safety analyses 
  • Experience in emergency response and currently holds First Aid and CPR certificates 
  • Experience in workers' compensation case management
