Vast is looking for a Senior Manager, EMI & Space Physics, reporting to the Director, RF Engineering, to support the development of the systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 


  • Recruit and empower a diverse team of engineers to develop our approach to design & test for EMI, ionizing radiation, and other in space environments such as plasma charging.
  • Guide the development of EMC, radiation, and in space charging requirements for Vast spacecraft.
  • Guide the derivation and distribution of EMI & in space environmental requirements.
  • Tailor industry standards for Vast spacecraft and missions.
  • Ensure the EMI & Space Physics team meets project deadlines and company objectives.
  • Foster a strong interdisciplinary relationship with other teams that rely on EMI & Space Physics to be successful
  • Exemplify a culture of excellence, extreme ownership, and safety. Enable engineers to take responsibility for the system level impact of their work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or related engineering discipline
  • 8+ years of experience working in EMI/EMC
  • 4+ years of experience in engineering leadership

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Ms or PhD in electrical engineering, computer engineering, physics, or related engineering discipline
  • Experience in EMI/EMC, radiation effects, or in space charging for spacecraft
  • Prior experience in an electronics or electrical systems design role
  • Experience with software development in Matlab, Python, etc
  • Experience with digital communications standards such as Ethernet, RS-422, PCIe, GMII, etc
  • Experience developing infrastructure for MIL-STD-461 compliance test (procedures, facilities, equipment, etc).
  • Deep understanding of electromagnetics, ionizing radiation, and plasma effects on spacecraft systems.
  • Experience with ionizing radiation environment derivation tools and models such as OMERE, SPENVIS, CREME, SIRE2, etc.
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to teach people of a multitude of education and industry backgrounds about EMI & Space Physics.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time
  • Willingness to work overtime, or weekends to support critical mission milestones
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs unassisted
  • Specific certifications, as appropriate
