Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Manager of Project Management 2 in support of the Strategic Deterrent Systems Division. The successful candidate will join division and could work in a variety of managerial roles within a program such as Sentinel, ICBM Sustainment, Advanced Programs, or Nuclear Command, Control, and Communications or within a functional homeroom taking care of people and their career progression. This position is located in Roy, UT, Huntsville, AL, or Colorado Springs, CO.

What You’ll Get to Do:

Successful candidate will join a team supporting day to day operations while being responsible for leading a team of at least 8-15 employees. This role requires a pro-active individual willing to work in fast-paced and dynamic environment. A good team focus and willingness to multi-task is important in this role.

In this position, as a Manager of Project Management 2, you could be supporting an experienced and diverse team responsible for Program Increment planning, Capital project planning and execution, cost and schedule management, employee SAP access, external partner onboarding, program and business unit reviews, risk and opportunity reviews and defining processes and procedures for the area you are assigned. As responsibilities span across a diverse set of stakeholders, this leader will be expected to collaborate effectively and partner across organizations – IPTs, Communications, Site Operations, and Program Leadership just to name a few, while ensuring day to day functions of the organization execute.

Specific duties to include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides horizontal integration across program segments and segment elements.

  • Provides general management of budget/forecast and earned value management across multiple teams and funding sources.

  • Act as the assignment manager and functional homeroom manager for assigned personnel.

  • Provides interface with Program Operations and Execution, and other areas as required.

  • Serve as liaison with staff, executives, and senior leaders regarding company climate, employee well-being, project updates, proposals, and planning.

  • Oversee daily operations if assigned in collaboration with senior leaders and directorates, and perform administrative tasks such as managing calendars, generating correspondence, maintaining electronic files, planning, and coordinating meetings, and scheduling facilities.

  • Develop and build on relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and responsiveness of existing operations and help define new operational strategies by working with senior leaders and other executives on special projects.

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert, handling inquiries, developing action plans, and assisting with preparation and dissemination of communications.

  • Improve current processes and optimize organizational procedures for efficiency and productivity.

  • Develop and deliver high level briefings to Program Leadership and/or customer.

  • Provide solutions to complex problems that are consistent with the organization’s objectives.

  • Identify opportunities for change and champion needed changes in assigned organization.

  • Navigate ambiguity and develop a systemic approach and strategy to address and solve problems.

  • Build relationships and effectively listen and communicate to influence and ensure accountability across a network of stakeholders.

  • Coordinating with the Division Homeroom, for identifying needs and coordination on task closure (Agile).

  • Preparing charts, briefings and metrics as needed to provide the Program with visualization material necessary to understand the health of the organization.     

  •  Acting with a sense of urgency and accountability; taking ownership of tasks and strategic direction.

  • Updating project database information with multiple input sources.

  • Coordination of SharePoint database system changes with admins and developer.

  • Oversees and manages the operational aspects of ongoing homeroom projects and serves as liaison between project management and the assignment leaders.

  • Provides coaching direction for assigned project managers with intent to develop project manager skills to perform the assignment tasks.

  • Reviews status of projects with the project managers who are assigned to perform those tasks to ensure compliance to scope and need of the assignment team.

  • Assesses project issues and develops resolutions to meet productivity, quality, and client-satisfaction goals and objectives.

  • Develops mechanisms for monitoring project progress and for intervention and problem solving with project managers, line managers, and clients.

  • Supports assignment leadership in direct activities which support the needs of the program as well as to improve the efficient performance from the project management team.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 6 years of relevant experience or Masters Degree with 4 years of relevant experience.

  • At least 1 year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.

  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4 years of leadership related experience.

  • Financial acumen/experience in maintaining a budget.

  • Agile/Scrum experience in leading project teams.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach individual contributors in a matrix type of organization.

  • Experience on an ICBM program.

  • Experience with EVMS including schedule management, risk management and performance management.

  • SAP Clearance

  • Experience in organizing and directing multiple teams and departments.

  • Depth and breadth of experience with defense products and services, including understanding of DoD weapons programs.

  • Detailed and team oriented with demonstrated leadership and organization skills.

  • Experience in collaborating across organizations to bring forward a consolidated objective and measure performance.

  • Experience in leading through a program or project start-up and effectively rolling out and managing change.

  • Proficient in Jira, Confluence, MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • At least 2 years’ experience with Agile processes.


Salary Range: $108,400.00 - $179,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
