Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Guidance, Navigation, & Control (GNC) Engineer or a Principal Guidance, Navigation, & Control Engineer. This position will be located in San Diego, CA. The selected candidate will design, develop, implement, verify, and test algorithms, software, and simulation tools to perform Guidance, Navigation and Control (GNC) of aircraft. Develop control laws to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin requirements, both on ground and in flight. Develop air vehicle system linear and non-linear dynamic simulation models and integrate models into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments. Analyze air vehicle flight test data and support flight test activities.
Essential Functions include the following:
Flight test support in mission control room (pre-flight predictions, real-time support, post flight analysis, parameter identification)
Perform performance and flying qualities analysis
Non-linear 6DOF Simulation analysis (stress testing, trade studies, etc.)
Linear MATLAB analysis (gain/phase margin determination, stability margin analysis)
Embedded flight control software design/code/test
Data analysis and investigation (document analysis and provide presentations to management and customer)
Mission plan analysis support
This position can be filled at either the Engineer or Principal Engineer level.
Basic Qualifications for Engineer:
Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 2+ years of relevant industry experience or 0 years' experience with a Masters STEM degree
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special Access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
Must have excellent communication, analysis and problem-solving skills and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Familiarity with Flight Sciences
Knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics
Basic Qualifications for Principal Engineer:
Bachelors in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with 5+ years of relevant industry experience or 3 years' experience with a Masters STEM degree or 0 years' experience with a PhD in ST
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance as well as Program Special Access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs
Must have excellent communication, analysis and problem-solving skills and be able to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
Familiarity with Flight Sciences
Knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight dynamics
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficient in C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink
Knowledgeable in-flight sciences, control law development, and control system analysis
Experience analyzing non-linear simulations of aircraft closed-loop dynamics
Experience using MATLAB to create, process, analyze and visually represent data
Active DoD Secret clearance
Flight test experience
