Summary
 
We have a current opportunity for a Principal Materials, Process and Composites Engineer located at our facility in Goleta, CA. In this role you will provide expert level M&P and Specialty Engineering support to multiple customer programs and R&D as well as expertise in the design and manufacturing of structural composites.  
 
Responsibilities
  • Provide Materials and Process Engineering expertise to deployable space solar arrays
  • Provide Composite Materials design, manufacturing and testing expertise to deployable space solar arrays
  • Review and approve engineering drawings and documents in accordance with specifications to assist in resolving part failure analysis, fabrication, assembly, and testing
  • Evaluate materials, parts, finishes, and processes for survivability in space environments, including thermal extremes, radiation exposure, plume exposure, component outgassing
  • Evaluate program material and process requirements and generate program Parts, Material and Process lists and reports
  • Write and review materials, process, and test specifications for use in the manufacture of the space components
  • Responsible for the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology, and processes
  • Perform materials related failure investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions by the inspection, analysis and testing of parts.
  • Qualify new composites manufacturing facilities, equipment and processes to ensure compliance to internal and/or customer engineering and specifications
  • Troubleshoot and de-risks composites manufacturing processes, reducing quality non-conformances, at internal and supplier production facilities
  • Generate reports for specialty engineering analysis and testing including contamination and survivability from radiation, erosion and thermal environments
  • Write and review test plans and procedures for test execution
  • Participate in the mentoring of developing of engineers and the areas of M&P, Composites and Specialty Engineering
 
Ideal Experience
 
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering in one of the following areas Materials, Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems Engineering, or related STEM field, with a minimum of 12 or more years’ of relevant experience. Willing to consider experience in lieu of education
  • Experience writing and reviewing test coupon plans and overseeing test coupon fabrication
  • Experience developing and executing composite material qualification plans, including fabrication and testing plans
  • Experience with Composite Engineering and Analysis Engineering tools and methods
  • Experience with Aerospace Composite Materials, assembly, fabrication, bonding
  • Experience with Chemical/Contamination of space hardware and processes
  • Experience with aerospace process and material specifications
 
Desired Skills
 
  • Post graduate degree in Engineering, Aerospace, or related fields
  • Recognized space industry specialist with insight into multiple engineering fields and disciplines.
  • Demonstrated leadership by example
  • Comprehensive understanding of space design best practices and lessons learned
  • Experience with JAMA requirements management database software
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint and Team. Microsoft Project experience a plus
  • Experience developing or owning processes within an AS9100 or similar accredited environment
  • Experience with stage-gate review process, managing review boards, and managing launch readiness
  •  Experience and training in safe handling protocols for flight hardware, including cleanroom and ESD standards

Pay Range
$179,000 -$220,000

Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth.  Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
