Job description

A thriving economy in space is needed to make life on Earth more vibrant, sustainable, and equitable. Space technology will enable global access to information, solutions to climate change, answers to global food security, products that transform healthcare, clean energy production, and more. Today, rocket launch options are slow, expensive, and unreliable. Stoke is building the world’s most efficient fully and rapidly reusable rocket designed to fly daily that will radically increase access to space and open up the space economy to safeguard our precious home, Earth.

Description

Fully reusable launch vehicles are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. As a valves design engineer, you will have extreme ownership over valve designs across the first stage, first stage engine, second stage, and second stage engine. This consists of architectural trades, detailed design, structural analysis, CFD analysis, manufacturing reviews, development test planning and execution, flight qualification, and production support for valve assemblies across the entire rocket. As Stoke develops a 100% reusable rocket, fast iteration and supporting the stages and engines throughout their development and production life cycles is paramount. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.

Responsibilities

  • Perform architectural trades for valve design, conceptual design, detailed design, and release of hardware, ensuring that the design conforms to fluid or engine system requirements
  • Work with the fluid systems team to develop the stage and engine P&IDs in accordance with valve design capabilities
  • Perform structural and CFD analysis
  • Develop test tooling (power supplies, fluid panels, flow setups, vibe fixturing, etc.) required to perform thorough component-level development, qualification, and acceptance testing processes
  • Support stage and/or engine testing that takes place in Kent or Moses Lake, WA
  • Track, resolve, and prevent non-conformances on valve hardware
  • Support procurement activities on purchased valves (as needed) and any piece-part components (machined parts, seals, fasteners, etc.)
  • Work with the manufacturing teams to develop a high-rate production line for your valve designs

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in design, build, and testing of rocket engine or rocket stage valve hardware
  • Extensive experience with mechanical design, CAD software, engineering drawings (GD&T per ASME Y14.5), and configuration management (Siemens NX and Teamcenter preferred)
  • Proficiency with operation and testing of hazardous pneumatic systems, cryogenic tests, as well as executing environmental tests (vibration, thermal cycle, thermal vacuum cycle)
  • Extensive experience with stress analysis hand calculations and FEA (Ansys preferred)
  • Exceptional command of fundamentals, including compressible flow, thermodynamics, control systems, cryogenics, and instrumentation
  • Hands on experience performing fabrication, assembly, and development of valve hardware
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals, and ability to apply that knowledge in practical ways to a fast-paced development program
  • Proficiency with aerospace standard fasteners, seals, tubing, fittings, and commercial off the shelf hardware
  • Proficiency with fluid analysis tools (Siemens AMESim, Thermal Desktop, Python, EES, REFPROP, or equivalent)
  • Experience in an AS9100-compliant efficient manufacturing production system
  • Ability to lead
  • Ability to follow
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or similar
  • Work in person in Kent, Washington

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision and basic life insurance
  • 401(k) match
  • Paid time off
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Equity

Compensation

Target levels:

  • Level 3 Range: $125,600 - $188,300
