Job description

Duties

Provide technical guidance and direction to aircraft engineering technicians/mechanics and overall technical authority for the assigned research platform aircraft.
Serve as the designated quality inspector on assigned research aircraft, performing inspections in all areas affecting the air worthiness and operational safety of the research vehicle.
Consult with Project Manager and Engineers to obtain information on the nature of planned flight objectives, such as proposed flight schedules, configuration changes and other related information necessary to prepare the aircraft for flight.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical directives, planning documents, test specifications, technical publications and procedures, and applicable safety manuals.
Manage aircraft data in NAMIS, and all aircraft documentation that involves maintenance, modifications, pre flights, post flights, and inspections, as well as the safe working environment for all ground operations.
Develop inspection procedures and techniques to meet the requirements of new or modified equipment or systems, and/or recommends improvement to the cognizant operations engineering personnel.

Current Federal employees must meet qualifications, time in grade, and 90 days after competitive appointment requirements by the closing date of the announcement.

Qualifications

Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.

To qualify for GS-13, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service:

Providing technical oversight of maintenance, flight, and support of teams during deployments in coordination with support staff, partners, incoming instrument operators or developers;
Coordinating the deployment, maintenance, science, flight, and support of teams through problem solving strategies;
Supporting safety, and mission assurance on three highly modified, Global Hawk or other autonomous aircraft; providing recommendations to resolve issues during inspections.
