Job description

Company Overview:

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. Our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Launch team at Relativity Space is where the rubber meets the road, a proving ground for technological advancements and an opportunity for “cradle-to-grave” project ownership. The Launch team is responsible for designing, building, and operating world-class launch facilities supporting Terran R integration, launch operation, and recovery at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. This team is critical to the launch success of Terran R, among many other firsts!

About the Role:

As a Launch GSE (Ground Support Equipment) Specialist, you'll play a pivotal role in spearheading the development of a cutting-edge orbital launch site. Your responsibilities will include providing essential input to designers and ensuring that fabrication processes, assembly feasibility, and optimization considerations are integrated early into the design phase. Collaborating closely with various teams, you'll oversee the lifecycle of GSE tooling, from managing off-site fabrication to coordinating logistics for transportation and on-site job planning and preparation.

Your role will also entail leading diverse assembly, fabrication, installation, and field machining activities, working hand in hand with engineering to develop comprehensive plans. In addition, you'll be instrumental in sourcing, cultivating, and managing key partnerships with critical suppliers and contractors, ensuring seamless integration into the project's framework.

Moreover, you'll be tasked with assembling and maintaining a comprehensive array of equipment, tools, and machinery essential for the successful execution of the launch site and future complex-wide facilities. Collaboration will be key, as you'll work closely with teams spanning launch fluids, mechanical, data and controls, civil, and operations to develop, activate, operate, troubleshoot, and upgrade Ground Support Equipment vital for launching and recovering Terran R at Relativity's site(s).

In this dynamic role, your expertise and contributions will be instrumental in achieving Relativity's ambitious goals in both space exploration and technology advancement.

About You:

  • Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in a hands-on fabrication or machining role, coupled with demonstrated proficiency in equipment installation, industrial assembly, or equipment maintenance
  • Proficiency in metrology techniques and practices demonstrated through professional experience in relevant contexts
  • Professional experience in quality assurance or quality control processes directly related to fabrication or machining work
  • The ability to work autonomously and effectively prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Travel up to 15% supporting construction and activation projects at other Relativity sites as necessary

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Engineering Degree (preferred but not required)
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional ethics and integrity
  • Effective communication skills
  • Willingness to work in an outdoor environment as needed
  • Postsecondary education in a technical field (preferred but not required)
  • 8+ years of professional experience in fabrication, machining, installation, industrial assembly, maintenance, or upgrade work (preferred but not required)
  • Experience working on major projects for a launch service provider (preferred but not required)
  • Experience in leading or supervising teams of machinists, tool-and-die-makers, and/or other fabrication trades (preferred but not required)

Relativity Space offers competitive salary and equity, a generous vacation policy, an annual L&D stipend and more!
