The Navigation Guidance and Control Engineering team is hiring for a Sr. Principal Engineer GNC Guidance Navigation Control professional at our Chandler, AZ location.

Position Overview

Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms and software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control of missile stages during powered and coast phases of launch, flight as well as during staging events. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for missiles and launch vehicles. Candidate will lead a team in design efforts for the interceptor launch vehicle.

Essential Functions:

Lead a team of engineers who support Interceptor launch vehicle, and business development programs· Design, develop, and implement flight software algorithms to support guidance, navigation, and control functions for the interceptor launch vehicle.

Design, develop, and implement simulation software to test and verify mission requirements for the vehicle· Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations to achieve a desired position, orientation or orbit in space to enable intercept of incoming threats.

Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control laws and hardware and software requirements for launch vehicles and/or missiles.  Utilize excellent communication skills to report program milestones, technical approaches, and findings to GNC functional management as well as program management. Support the tasking and mentoring of staff in support of achieving program goals.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related engineering experience

Active DoD Secret security clearance, or higher

Experience with vehicle trajectory design and customer provided requirements analysis in a flight software in simulation environment.

Ability to Lead a team.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor or Master’s in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical

Active DoD Top secret security clearance

Experience with autopilot and guidance algorithm design and navigation and actuator subsystems

Experience with Python and the Linux operating system are preferred

Experience with C++, MATLAB, and Simulink

Salary Range: $114,900.00 - $172,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
