In this role, you will establish, implement, maintain, and enforce quality system processes that support Test and Flight ground systems. As needed, measure, analyze, and improve quality system performance consistent with organization quality goals, integrate quality system applications between engineering, project management, and operations to ensure the consistent and ongoing use of quality best practices and communication of quality issues, and facilitate troubleshooting of quality issues with diverse teams, lead causal analysis activities to drive to root cause and corrective action.

In addition, you will perform reviews and approve fabrication build documents including work orders and nonconformance records. You will perform periodic audits of the application of our quality system in accordance with AS9100, recommend initiatives and/or changes that will improve product and system quality, and provide quality assurance subject matter expertise to inspection, fabrication, and test. Periodically, you will interface with internal and external customers on quality related concerns and develop training materials to build quality awareness. In this role, you will perform visual and dimensional inspections of welded joints and structural steel components. You will perform multiple NDT methods for various ground support systems and will have responsibility for determining if welded assemblies conform to applicable codes, standards, and specifications and acceptance criteria.

Responsibilities:

  • Work hand-in-hand with Contractors and subcontractors to develop and execute project-specific QA/QC plan with scopes of work and work procedures
  • Implement project-specific QA/QC Plan in coordination with the project safety plan
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with contractors, subcontractors, architects, consultants, and vendors to ensure that the QA/AC Plan delivers a fully compliant project
  • Conduct testing and inspections and arrange for third-party testing and inspections, as well as analyze and report results
  • Inspect general construction, structural steel fabrication, cryogenic piping-tubing
  • Perform visual inspections on welded products both in progress and completed scope
  • Review of anomalies and non-conformances due to fabrication, modification, and testing activities
  • Review and verify welding procedures, heat treatment, hardness testing is per specifications and are qualified, and in conformance to the applicable procedure and AWS code
  • Lead ground system weld acceptance reviews and ensure adherence to and health of acceptance process
  • Familiarity with Construction Materials Standards, Specifications, and Codes (AISC, ASTM, AWS)
  • Apply testing criteria in accordance with applicable specifications or standards and evaluate results
  • Interpret digital and film x-ray inspection results
  • Develop NDT inspection plans, techniques, and procedures
  • Organize and report test results
  • Perform specialized inspections
  • Provide technical input to program management as required for welding and metallurgical issues
  • Provide technical guidance, on applications of non-destructive examination techniques and procedures
  • Facilitate troubleshooting of quality issues with diverse teams, lead causal analysis activities to drive to root cause and corrective action
  • Provide Quality support across multiple programs and work centers
  • Perform program process surveillance ensuring compliance to requirements

 

Qualifications:

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certificate with AWS D1.1, AWS D16.1 and AWS D17.1 experience
  • Minimum ASNT NDT Level II certification (VT, MT, PT, RT, UT, film interpretation) - NDT Level III preferred
  • 7+ years’ proven experience in Quality, Engineering and/or Ground Support Systems role that has a direct relationship to welded assemblies fabricated to national or international standards - B.S. in Engineering/Science or related field is preferred
  • Must have direct experience with pipe & tube fabrication ASME B31.3 / AS33611 or equivalent
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9000 QM System and/or related quality systems and programs
  • Familiar with: SMAW, SAW, GTAW, FCAW, GMAW welding processes
  • Knowledge of welding processes, welding equipment, and welding safety practices
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, specifications, and interpret tolerances
  • Excellent communication skills, organized, attention to detail, and self-starter
  • Ability to support program management schedules (first or second shift) and overtime on as needed basis
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

 

Desired:

  • American Society of Quality, Certified Quality Engineer certification
  • Background in quality inspection and inspection tool capabilities
  • Coating Inspection experience but not required - NACE, SSPC or AMPP certification
  • ICC Bolting certification
  • Knowledge of construction process means and methods, and materials, their characteristics, installation procedures and tolerances
  • PMP or Project Management Certificate
  • Experience in Aerospace, ground systems, space launch, military/commercial aviation highly preferred.
  • Experience with pneumatics, cryogenic fluids, environmental controls, and hydraulic systems and their hazardous operations
  • Understanding of preventative maintenance (PM), predictive maintenance (PdM), and corrective maintenance processes
  • Experience in GD&T fundamentals
  • Experience with quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Six Sigma Green, Black Belt, or comparable certification
  • Experience with Primavera P6, CAD applications, CREO, Windchill, or JIRA
  • Quality performance measurement analysis capabilities

 

Physical Requirements:

  • This is a physically active, all four (4) seasons role with both indoor and outdoor work requirements, including rain, wind, cold, heat, & humidity
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs
  • Ability to work at heights
