EchoStar has an exciting opportunity for a Computer Engineer – Network Systems Applications in our Hughes Network Systems division.   This position is located at our Gaithersburg, MD office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute the design and implementation of network solutions and automation tools for use in integrating, testing, deploying and verifying distributed application systems required for satellite ground networks.
  • Conduct the requirements analysis necessary to establish performance requirements and features of the tools and solutions under development.
  • Plan and execute network application systems design, primarily within a Linux environment, using C and C++, and conduct software state machine analysis and development to deliver near real-time software and asynchronous programs for ground network communication systems.
  • Serve as a primary liaison to external vendors and to internal development teams to qualify hardware and firmware for release in the production environment.
  • Establish the requirements of the application’s Production environment to include server configuration settings, resource requirements (servers, logging, etc.) and routing management.
  • Be responsible for selecting the most appropriate network protocols (UDP, SCTP, TCP, DNAT) to be employed in the development projects and establish the optimal configuration settings to integrate the delivered network application systems within a production Linux environment.
  • Plan and implement the deployment of network applications during the testing and release phases of development, including the development of automation solutions for deployment tasks employing Python.
  • Perform post-deployment verification to ensure the application release meets established functionality.
  • Regularly interface with client teams for technical discussion of production issues and to plan and execute delivery of design solutions.
  • Plan for the integration off-the-shelf services, such as AWS, with existing network application systems to meet the features development requirements and timelines specified by clients.
  • Coordinate development efforts with the senior technical leads for software delivery timelines, task management, and delegation to other team members.
  • Mentor junior engineers and interns as a subsystem lead regarding SOPs for developing and deploying production ready software for engineering use.

Basic Requirements: 

  • Masters degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering and 12 months of experience in the position or in a Software Developer or Computer Programmer position. 
  • As an alternative, a Bachelor’s degree in a field of Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering or Electrical and Computer Engineering and five years of qualifying experience in the position or in a Software Developer or Computer Programmer position will be acceptable.

Special Requirements: 

  • 12 months of experience conducting application programming or development to support broadband data network operations.
  • 12 months of experience employing C and C++.
  • 12 months of experience with Python.
  • 12 months experience with the Linux operating system to include scripting, network & device configuration, services, and system maintenance.

Will be eligible for discretionary bonus, with funding based on company performance.
