We’re on the hunt for a Senior Product / Quality Assurance Engineer on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Kanata office.

With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true. As our Senior Product / Quality Assurance Engineer, you will become an integral part of the Product Assurance / Quality Assurance team ensuring the highest possible quality for MDA projects. Typical duties include:

Reporting to the Manager of Quality / Product Assurance, the Senior Product / Quality Assurance Engineer is an integral part of the team, and is responsible for ensuring the highest possible quality and product assurance for MDA projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing, maintaining, and evaluating the company Quality system meeting ISO 9001 / AS9100 standards; including scheduling and performing quality audits, initiating corrective actions; investigating product failures
  • Preparation of PA/QA Plans and EEE parts control plans and implementing project product assurance requirements to ensure customer requirements are met
  • Review and approval of product electrical and software requirements and design drawings / documents, analysis, test plans / procedures / reports / test witnessing for assessing MDA products and deliverables ensuring customer requirements are met
  • Preparation of FMEA and Safety Review packages
  • Preparation of component and assembly Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), Conduct of NCR Material Review Boards (internal and with customer) NCR investigation, resolution and closure
  • Working in conjunction with others to create, implement, evaluate and adjust company’s quality policies, standards, and procedures

 

This includes working with process owners to establish programs and improve compliance with Product Assurance / Quality Assurance Standards.

  • Determining, reviewing and approving supplier’s performance as per required specifications
  • Developing and maintaining Product Assurance standards related to processes and products
  • Maintaining systems to measure performance against established standards
  • Implementation of EEE screening, sampling, reporting and data analysis
  • Participating in customer and supplier meetings
  • Communicating with and providing direction to project teams on Product / Quality issues on a regular basis, and proactively assist in issues relate to Product / Quality Assurance
  • Managing regulatory compliance requirements
  • Provide input to request for proposals on Product Assurance related issues
  • Knowledge of aerospace product / quality standards including those of NASA, CSA and ESA
  • Knowledge of workmanship requirements such as NASA-STD-8739.1B, NASA-STD-8739.4, J-STD-001, IPC-A-610, IPC-A-600 & IPC-WHMA-A-620
  • Knowledge of EEE parts qualification and radiation requirements as well as alert processing
  • Knowledge of EEE parts relifing requirements
  • Implementing approved sampling, reporting and data analysis as required
  • Familiarity with laser development and laser safety requirements
  • Developing and delivering product assurance training as required

 

Education and / or Certifications:

A degree from a recognized university (Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred).

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of product / quality assurance principles and practices related to aerospace / space product development and end item requirements
  • Knowledge of aerospace quality management system requirements in accordance with AS9100
  • Knowledge of engineering concepts and practices including electrical, optical and mechanical design
  • Verification / Validation of end product requirements
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience in writing product assurance plans and proposal reviews
  • Experience convening MRRs (Manufacturing Readiness Reviews) and TRRs (Test Readiness Reviews)
  • Knowledge of product End Item Data Packages (As-Designed versus As-Built)
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office and configuration control software
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written
  • Capable of working well individually as well as part of a team
  • Attention to detail and ability up to date accurate records
  • Able to obtain a Federal Government Security Clearance

Assets

  • Knowledge of military and aerospace product / quality standards including those of NASA, CSA and ESA
  • Knowledge of workmanship and end item product requirements such as IPC, NASA, CSA and ESA PWB design and fabrication, circuit card assembly, harness assembly, mechanical assembly, cleanroom and ESD requirements
  • Knowledge of EEE parts quality and radiation requirements
  • Knowledge of product assurance / quality assurance program requirements
  • Knowledge of program product assurance requirement (Product Assurance Program Plans)
  • Familiar with Environmental testing (component and system level)
  • Familiar with laser development and laser safety
