This role is a part of the Test & Flight Operations team, providing centralized support to business units with a focus on the design, build, and maintenance of the ground systems, test, and launch facilities across multiple locations.
As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will process flight hardware, perform spacecraft mate & encapsulation, transport, mate to the launch vehicle, participate in integrated testing, and closeout operations leading to launch of New Glenn. You will share in our team’s impact on all aspects of payload operations. As part of Payload Operations you will be a member of a highly skilled team reporting to Mission Operations/Test & Flight Operations. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Responsibilities:
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and other documents in order to draft detailed procedures for assembly and operation of payload processing ground and flight hardware
- Develop/Edit operations procedures for integration of launch vehicle flight hardware and maintenance of ground support equipment
- Gather and interpret ground processing environment data for the encapsulated payloads to assure compliance with interface requirements
- Lead a small group of qualified technicians to perform integrated payload processing activities in a 100K (ISO-8) class or higher cleanroom, and interacting with New Glenn spacecraft customer teams
- Assist with hands-on assembly, integration, and testing of payload fairings, adapters, and related flight hardware including mechanical, instrumentation, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
- Oversee operation and maintenance of a wide range of support equipment and tools
- Closely collaborate with engineers and technicians from various launch vehicle and ground system disciplines on a daily basis
- Perform ordnance handling, checkout, installation, and connection
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering or another related engineering discipline
- 3+ years of experience with payload operations, large launch vehicle operations, integration, manufacturing or test environment working on mechanical systems
- Experience executing launch operations procedures
- Direct experience with payload fairings, adapters, payload separation systems, spacecraft integration
- Current TS/SCI clearance or ability to successfully complete a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
- Must be able to travel to other Blue Origin offices, alternate launch site, and customer facilities (within and outside the United States)
- Position requires lifting (35-lbs), climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying, and standing for extended periods (8 hours min.)
- Must be able to become certified to operate equipment such as aerial lifts, forklifts, and overhead cranes
- Must be able to work all shifts and available for overtime as well as weekends, when needed to support test or launch campaign timelines
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Beyond Gravity (formerly; RUAG) Payload Separation System Certification
- Hands-on experience with ordnance handling, checkout installation, and electrical connection
- Experience with lifting handling GSE, environmental control systems operations
- Intermediate skills using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, & Outlook)
- Experience with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Highly detail oriented, diligent, hard working with excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and accurately with persons with diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision to develop and manage many tasks and schedules simultaneously
