Virgin Galactic is seeking a talented and motivated technical leader to lead a variety of Test & Evaluation activities for our next generation of Spaceships.  The Test & Evaluation Manager will build and lead a team of engineers and technicians to plan, execute and deliver test results for multiple engineering disciplines; including, but not limited to structures, materials, mechanical systems, avionics and flight controls.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Build and lead a Test & Evaluation Team to deliver products that achieve technical, cost, and schedule objectives.
  • Overall responsibility for building and leading a team of engineers and technicians to plan, execute and deliver test results for multiple engineering disciplines; including, but not limited to structures, materials, mechanical systems, avionics and flight controls.
  • Responsible for hiring, mentoring, training and performance management of a team of 5-10 personnel.
  • Ensure horizontal and vertical integration of best engineering practices across the company.
  • Collaborate with other organizations across the company (Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Business/Cost Management, Quality, etc) as required to ensure execution of program statement of work.
  • This position reports to the Test & Evaluation Program Director on the Spaceship Delta program.

 

What You Bring

  • Intellectual curiosity and passion for the Virgin Galactic mission of connecting people through spaceflight
  • Minimum of a B.S. in Engineering or technical discipline from an accredited university
  • Minimum 7 years of experience with the design, development, integration and testing aerospace systems products
  • Leadership experience on a product development and/or test team in a collaborative, fast paced environment
  • Leadership experience with hiring, mentoring, training and performance management of personnel
  • Applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by the ITAR (22 CFR §120.15)

Preferred Experience:

  • Aerospace test practices including component acceptance and qualification, structural validation, environmental testing, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
  • Full Scale / Large Scale testing of primary structure in a FAR 23/25 or DoD environment.
  • Hands-on experience with composite part fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Aircraft systems development and/or testing per DO-254 and DO-178
  • Environmental Qualification standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461/464, MIL-STD-704
  • Aircraft/spacecraft wiring per AS50881
  • Digital communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, RS485, Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553 and CAN

 

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $96,600.00–$147,300.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
