This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface. 

 

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers the candidate Applies broad multi-disciplinary engineering (mechanical and electrical/electronic) knowledge, skills, and methods as well as computer/software systems to design and engineer the overall systems infrastructure including engineering, implementation and integration, and technical services and support. Designs, implements, installs, maintains, and administers infrastructures including hardware, software, and various configurations. Monitors overall performance to proactively identify potential issues and tune them appropriately. Performs root cause analysis on failed components and implements corrective measures. Works with others to establish and improve processes and procedures. 

 

You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of designing, building, testing and flying Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLS) flight hardware.   The ECLS System is composed of the essential hardware to allow humans to safely inhabit space.   ECLSS circulates air around the vehicle picking up carbon dioxide, humidity and trace contaminants to be scrubbed and provides oxygen for breathing.   The internal cabin pressure is maintained and monitored.   Clean drinking water is provided to the crew.  The ECLS system also monitors for emergencies such as rapid depressurization and fire and counteracts them.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  •  Own requirements at the Environmental Control and Life Support system Level.

  •  Provide Leadership and guidance to Responsible Engineers for lower level requirements. 

 
  • Own and manage all internal and external interfaces. 

  • Be the ECLS point of contact for other system engineers. 

  • Create and manage verification and validation plans. 

  • Contribute to the ECLS leadership team. 

  • Mentor junior system engineers 

  • Adhere to Blue Leadership Principles. 

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • B.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Chemical, Environmental or related engineering field
  • 8+ years of experience with advanced engineering skills to design, develop, and evaluate the ECLSS sub-systems listed
  • Strong ability and desire to analyze complex systems and deliver solutions to results-oriented problems
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, dynamic work environment
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Successful candidates typically have 5 or more years of relevant experience
  • M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Software, Electrical, or related technical subject area
  • Experience with aircraft or spacecraft life support/environmental control (ECLSS) technologies and architectures
  • Experience with software tools such as DOORS Next Generation, Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, and Windchill

 

 

 

 

 

 

Compensation range for on site WA applicants is
$146,644.50$205,302.30 USD
