Job description

Virgin Galactic is seeking an engineer with a strong background in composite overwrapped pressure vessels (COPVs), preferably with rocket motor and/or propellant tank experience. Ideally the person in this role will have a background in design, manufacturing, and testing. This role requires critical thinking in hardware integration and product lifecycles.
 

  • Perform structural design and analysis of COPVs within program requirements
  • Support liner manufacturing and filament winding activity
  • Travel as needed to assist in vendor selection, and management
  • Define, plan, and execute qualification and acceptance testing
  • Support acceptance testing data reduction and post fire/flight inspections

 

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 3-5+ years of relevant industry experience preferred 
  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint

 

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience with COPV design or manufacturing
  • Experience with Abaqus and/or Ansys with filament winding module a strong plus
  • Experience with CATIA V5 and/or Solidworks a strong plus
  • Project/subcontract management experience
  • Knowledge of fluid systems sizing and analysis
  • Experience with the design of flight vehicles or vehicle systems to a set of requirements or standards such as CFR 14, Part 400, Part 23 and 25, military or NASA

The annual U.S. base salary range for this full-time position is $85,900.00–$131,050.00. The base pay actually offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, location, and experience and take into account internal equity. Other forms of pay (e.g., bonus or long term incentive) may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
