Job Overview & Responsibilities

United Launch Alliance seeks a Thermodynamics Engineer 3 to join our team at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. This position is a part of a world-class team in supporting the Thermal analysis, design, and integration of Atlas V and Vulcan missions. These efforts support our mission to Save Lives, Explore the Universe, and Connect the World.

The Thermal Engineer position includes the following responsibilities:

  • Support launch vehicle walk-downs to verify the launch vehicle and its components have been integrated to meet thermal design and analysis intent and certify the vehicle is ready for flight.
  • Resolve thermal non-conformances, data observations, and requirement waivers that arise in the field during production and launch operations.
  • Provide Thermal support during launch site operations (WDRs and launches).
  • Perform thermal analysis for the launch vehicle booster, upper stage and launch facility at both the detailed component level and at the systems level for all mission phases (pre-launch, ascent and on-orbit).
  • Interface with other technologies such as but not limited to Structures, Strength, Propulsion Design/Analysis, Mechanical Design, and Avionics.
  • Develop thermal analysis process improvements that reduce cost and risk and/or improve vehicle performance.
  • Develop procedures and plans for thermal test programs when existing analytical capabilities are insufficient.
  • Mentor other engineers in the above responsibilities.
