Vast is looking for a Senior High Speed Digital Design Engineer, reporting to the SVP of Engineering, to support the development of hardware systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations. This will be a full-time, exempt position located in our Long Beach location. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Design, analysis, modeling, simulation, and characterization of high-speed digital circuits
  • Participate-in a multi-functional engineering team environment to develop and integrate hardware, software, and network technology for products and systems
  • Establish product objectives, specifications and technical solutions to ensure products satisfy customer requirements and deliverables
  • Contribute to all aspects of the product life cycle (concept, development, integration, qualification, acceptance, delivery, and maintenance)
  • Work effectively across multiple corporate functions including business, engineering, operations, and manufacturing

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • 5+  years of experience with digital and microelectronic hardware design, development, test, and verification
  • 5+ years of experience working with a production facility to make sure hardware is manufacturable and reproducible

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Experience with PCBA design and Altium or similar software
  • Experience with DDR, NVMe, NORFlash, and other high density memory products
  • Experience with Gigabit+ networking components (switches, phys, etc.)
  • Previously qualified hardware for harsh environments (Space, Aircraft, Autonomous Vehicles, Military, etc.)
  • Comfortable communicating technical topics to a variety of audiences
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and weigh against multi-disciplinary requirements together while assessing risk and making design and development decisions
  • Experience with fault-tolerant avionics computing architectures
  • Understanding of electrical schematics and electronics manufacturing to analyze and improve test coverage
  • Hands-on experience with sizing, installing and troubleshooting various electronic components
  • Experience with wire harness design and build, including associated sub-components
  • Experience with NX or similar CAD software
  • Competence with electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, etc.)
  • Creative problem solver that can bring multiple disciplines together with the ability to assess risk and make design and development decisions without all available data  
  • Self-motivated with strong learning, multi-tasking, organizational, communication and documentation skills
  • Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills

Pay Range: 

  • Senior Avionics Engineer Level III: $150,000 - $180,000
  • Staff Avionics Engineer Level IV: $170,000 - $200,000

Base salary will vary depending on job-related knowledge, education, skills, experience, business needs, and market demand. Salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package.
