This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building the sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the Lunar Surface.
As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will help lead solutions for various spaceflight systems engineering challenges as a Mission Engineering and Integration Cargo Mission Responsible Engineer (RE). The Cargo Mission RE is responsible for amending the Concept of Operations across all phases of the crewed lunar mission to reflect the planning for the Cargo Lander and the Cargo Delivery Element (CDE). You will work with systems engineers and multiple technical discipline engineers to review, coordinate, perform gap analysis, and manage data attributes for requirements, functions, technical performance measures, timelines, system models, interfaces, and other integrated data products across the end-to-end program life cycle. The HDL Cargo Mission RE is a Systems Thinker who proactively involves themselves in the requirements, design and development of systems that are active across all mission phases. To be successful, experience with spacecraft systems engineering will be required.
This opportunity reports to the Mission Systems Engineering and Integration Section inside the Sustaining Lunar Development Program Systems Engineering and Integration Group. Along with other growing, hardworking, and curious engineers, you’ll be work on a Program shaping the future of Blue Origin. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Act as the primary point of contact and subject matter expert for integration of the Cargo Lander and CDE across the program life cycle
- Ensure consistency between and perform gap analysis for requirements, functions, technical performance measures, integrated data products, and interfaces
- Create, update, and review system models
- Review and provide inputs on integrated products such as the Master Equipment List and configuration models
- Maintain links and communicate authoritative source of information for Cargo Lander and CDE with Mission Systems Engineering and Integration
- Manage inputs to mission timeline and operational modeling tools
- Ensure high quality for product deliverables
- Identify tasks, trades, analyses and tests to be performed by technical team members in support of technical data integration
- Integrate with the other mission phase leads and the crew lander system integration & analysis team to ensure consistency and communication across technical data products
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in Aerospace, Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related technical subject area.
- Demonstrated 10 years of experience with spacecraft systems engineering across a program or project life cycle.
- Ability to integrate and coordinate across multiple teams and disciplines by “leading through influence”
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Understanding of the principles, concepts, and methods of systems engineering, such as concept development, requirement definition, design solution definition, implementation, integration, verification and validation, qualification, commissioning, and operations
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications:
- Successful candidates typically have 15+ years of experience in aerospace systems development, with 10+ of those years in multiple technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience working with the NASA customer on a frequent basis.
- M.S. in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical subject area.
- Experience with software tools such as DOORS Next Generation, Jama, Cameo, MATLAB/Simulink, Confluence, JIRA, Git, Creo, SharePoint lists and pages, Visio, MS Project, and Windchill
