Job description

As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing primary and secondary structures and systems, while working closely with a fast-paced, agile team that strives to make a high-performance spacecraft from a clean sheet design.

Responsibilities

  • Design and packaging of primary and secondary structures and systems
  • Analyze loads and environments to develop efficient structures and load paths
  • Determine appropriate materials for designs
  • Perform hand calculations to determine appropriate member sizes
  • Produce engineering drawings with required specifications for manufacturing
  • Update designs and documentation as required
  • Work with in-house manufacturing group and external suppliers to produce designs

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors' degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 8+ years of demonstrated experience in mechanical design
  • Proficiency with CAD software and the ability to learn new tools
  • Familiarity with a wide set of manufacturing processes such as machining, additive, welding, forming, and composite construction
  • Demonstrated ability to apply dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively across teams
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain rationale and/or resolve concerns

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Creative design solutions to complex problems
  • Experience with both metallic and composite structures
  • Ability to work with complex assemblies
  • Experience with Siemens NX
  • Prior experience with spacecraft design
  • Experience working on a launch vehicle or satellite development effort
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
Additional Information:

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
