AST SpaceMobile and our global partners are building the first and only space-based cellular broadband network to be accessible by standard smartphones. Called SpaceMobile, this ultra-powerful network is being designed to provide connectivity at 4G/5G speeds everywhere on the planet – on land, at sea and in flight.

Summary:

The RF Engineer will apply various RF technologies to design RF system and/or subsystem including all the way from antennas to digital baseband and modem. This role is responsible for assisting and/or lead other relevant engineers in the organization and need to communicate/coordinate with various vendors and international teams in the other countries. This position requires a deep understanding of basic RF concepts such as impedance, gain, S-parameter, linearity, noise figure, isolation, and SNR, EVM and link budget. Also requires understanding RF equipment limitation and usages for RF test and how to perform RF test. Hands-on experience would be greatly beneficial in this role.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform trade off study for various rf system and/or sub system architecture.
  • RF design on the PCB level would be a big plus.
  • Conduct RF component and system level of testing with rf equipment for space applications
  • Conduct RF test with TVAC and Thermal Chamber
  • Assist teams in decision making for equipment needed.
  • Provide integration support of equipment on the satellite level.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, or 4 years of equivalent experience with some RF coursework.
  • Understand basic RF concepts and RF system.
  • Hands on experience with Spectrum Analyzer, Signal Generator and VNA
  • Familiarity with LabView programming or similar test control and data acquisition programs
  • Experience using basic electronic equipment such as oscilloscope, multimeter and power supplies.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card Holder.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proven ability to clearly communicate with engineering, technical support, and management.
  • Deep understanding of RF measurement such as S-parameter, Noise figure, Phase noise and P1dB.
  • Basic understanding of communication systems like MODCOD, SNR and Dynamic Range.
  • Deep understanding of various antennas or antenna system including high gain, low gain and phase array antennas.
  • Be able to communicate promptly with team members as needed.
  • Be able to process test results with proper format and interpret the rf test results.
  • Excellent organizational skills / communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • RF design tool experience such as ADS and HFSS or CST.
  • RF PCB design experience.
  • RF component or subsystem level of design and verification experience would be a big plus.
