We’re on the hunt for a Project Engineer in our Geointelligence Engineering Team at our Richmond BC office.
Our mission is to turn data into insight. From detecting changes in fragile ecosystems to monitoring northern ice floes and shipping routes, our near-real time data of Earth observation and the environment makes our Geointelligence team a leader in geospatial imagery, ground stations, enterprise geospatial systems and defence programs.
As a member of the Engineering team you will work on our programs such as Chorus Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Satellite, Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC), Square Kilometer Array (SKA) radio telescope, Aeronautical Navigation products, and Marine Insights products. You will work as part of a technical team to develop new capabilities, enhance existing capabilities and deliver solutions to our customers.

Role:
As part of the Engineering team, the individual will work with other engineers and suppliers in a multi-disciplinary team environment to create, deliver and maintain engineering solutions related to production and operation of UAV platforms and related ground control systems.
Responsibilities:
As a Project Engineer – Defence Intelligence, you may have a wide range of responsibilities that include things such as:
- Lead and coordinate day-to-day execution of the project team, to meet technical, schedule requirements and budget constraints.
- Apply and organize assigned resources to execute the work scope. Ensure shortages or conflicts are identified to the Program.
- Ensure ongoing project team coordination and communication, especially across disciplines, to ensure timely completion of project deliverables. Work to resolve any issues to ensure delivery.
- Working with both internal and external customers to understand their needs and requirements.
- Managing internal teams in the execution of in-service support activities for operational ground control systems.
- Overseeing the full engineering lifecycle for upgrades and enhancements including systems, software and hardware engineering.
- Supporting work planning and cost estimates during the project’s lifecycle; and providing mentoring and coaching to team members.
- Coordinate intra-project activities with key support resources, including roles such as Systems Engineering Lead, Network Architect, Cybersecurity Lead, Software Leads and subject matter experts, customer and external prime contractor.
- Manage test planning and execution activities.
- Identify and manage customer and program risks and opportunities including prioritization, mitigation, escalation, and resolution. Track status of risks retired, risks realized, and project assumptions that no longer hold.
- Support Program to negotiate, discuss and reach agreement with the customer with respect to key requirements and objectives of the program, as well as the funding, resources and methods required. Where there are disconnects, including process gaps/tailoring, ensure the Program Management is aware and that there is consistency of approach within the team.
- Chair program boards and meetings such as Change Boards, Product Demonstrations, Etc.
- Support the Program Manager with control of the program through a process of regular program reviews, design reviews and audits, staff meetings and other program meetings. Provide technical guidance, direction and decision-making to the program team
- Support preparation of detailed schedule to track program progress, including assessments of costs to date and estimates to complete and develop work-around plans as required to achieve cost and schedule objectives. This is done collaboratively with the Program Manager and other resources.
- Support preparation for monthly program reviews and, as required, briefings to senior management to maintain visibility of the program throughout the organization.
- Responsible for writing the Systems Engineering Management Plan (SEMP) showing compliance to MDA Engineering Process Handbook and ISO/IEC 15288 (referenced in SOW).
- Management of Technical Performance Measures and their margins across the design solution.
- Support customer communications as required. Creating and presenting reports to customers.
- Technical reviews as required.
Required Experience:
- A University Degree or Technical Diploma from an accredited institution in engineering, computer science, or a combination of related education and experience.
- At least 10 years’ experience demonstrating increasing levels of responsibility and complexity in a complex engineering environment.
- Experience in managing sub-contractors and suppliers.
- Experience as a team leader for software development, systems engineering or other similar teams.
- Experience in system integration of a complex system composed of multiple subsystems.
- Experience in troubleshooting, fault isolation, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Have an understanding of different types of engineering lifecycle as applicable from large complex systems development / integration programs.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and customer interaction skills.
- Be a self-starter with the ability to perform in a dynamic working environment; and
- Possess excellent problem-solving skills.
- Have a team-friendly attitude and willingness to learn.
- Knowledge of Requirements management, preferably with DOORS (referenced in SOW).
- Experience in working in Firm Fixed Price contracts.
While not mandatory, candidates will benefit from any of the following:
- Familiarity with UAV systems project implementation.
- Familiarity with modern software development methodology, tools, and software specification;
- Knowledge of or experience in:
- Linux environments / administration
- Network architecture, design and implementation
- Secure systems development
- Security frameworks, assessment, assurance cases, NIST standards and related.

Comments/Special Considerations:
Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the NATO Secret status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $98,000 - $144,100 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
