Job Description
a.i. solutions is seeking a highly motivated Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) Engineer to join the ELVIS contract supporting the NASA Launch Service Program at the Kennedy Space Center. The GN&C Engineer will provide insight/oversight and analysis of launch vehicle stability, control, and separation dynamics, as well as exercise approval authority on applicable launch vehicle contractor deliverables for our NASA customer. Insight/oversight includes GN&C independent verification and validation (IV&V) of analyses, mission integration requirements verification, and support of launch operations. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to embrace the a.i. solutions mission and work to continually exceed the expectations of our customers.
Essential Roles & Responsibilities:
- Support the Flight Dynamics Branch of the NASA Launch Services Program and serve as a technical expert for GN&C issues on NASA Expendable Launch Vehicle (ELV) missions.
- Analyze spacecraft mission objectives to develop guidance and control system design requirements.
- Perform simulation modeling of launch vehicles and their subsystems (linear/nonlinear & frequency/time-domain) to assess mission objectives.
- Review and assess launch service contractorโs GN&C system design.
- Perform mission analysis such as powered flight stability, coast flight stability, staging, spacecraft separation, dynamic motion studies, or other mission-specific modeling/analyses to support conclusions and recommendations.
- Conduct detailed reviews of analyses or flight data to support NASA certification of ELVs.
- Present analysis results at mission reviews; support ELV and mission engineering review boards, as required.
- Provide on-console support of launch campaigns and perform post-flight data reviews.
- Support process improvement activities to advance the group.
- Travel occasionally as required <10%
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. degree in Aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical engineering or related technical field
- 5+ years of experience in Launch Vehicles or related support
- Experience using industry modeling/simulation software (e.g. MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, FORTRAN, Python)
- U.S. Citizenship
- Successful completion of a government background check
Desired Background:
- Knowledge of commercial launch vehicle providers
- Knowledge of launch vehicle guidance, navigation, and control, and orbital mechanics
