The Position:
We’re on the hunt for a Materials and Processes Engineer for our Robotics and Space Operation team at our Brampton office.
With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success. Mission success starts in the design office with the preparation of a drawing package which must accurately describe the customer end item
Job Responsibilities:
As our Materials and Processes Engineer you will need to:
- Work closely with a large multidisciplinary engineering team in order to solve technical issues related to Materials and Processes
- Take part in design reviews/drawing reviews with development teams and others, when requested. Identify risks, propose solutions and develop mitigation strategies
- Present and communicate material science concepts to others within the organization
- Make recommendations to the business regarding new technologies, processes and materials selection. Including, plan methods for the qualification/test plans of new materials or process technologies
- Prepare, administer and approve technical requirements of internal company processes/standards for both electrical/mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Support Product Assurance by providing guidance in the selection and development of screening methods during procurement of parts
- When needed, work with manufacturing technicians and engineers to review /test setup/plans and participate in development testing.
- Liaise with customer to resolve issues and understand customer requirements and methods of verification.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and/or Engineering
- 4-8 years of post-graduate experience Materials and Process Engineering.
- Must be knowledgeable with military/aerospace industry standards such as ASTM, AMS, ISO, SAE, NAS and MIL specs
- Must be able to make material and process and mechanical parts selection for new design, including an understanding of material properties, heat treating, corrosion, chemistry, application environment, and NDE (Non Destructive Evaluation).
- Understanding basic spacecraft requirements such as materials in vacuum and extreme environments would be considered an asset.
- Must have working knowledge of manufacturing techniques and limitations
- Experience in working with program or project groups for technical discussions.
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written
- Multi-tasking and task-prioritizing capability
- Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP) and ITAR.
