Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Defense, Space, and Security (BDS) team is seeking a Satellite Digital Signal Processing Subsystems and Algorithms Engineer (Level 2, 3, or 4) to join the team in El Segundo, CA.

The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.

Position Overview

The Satellite DSP Subsystems and Algorithms Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that are immersed in high intensity development projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to will design and develop state-of-the-art, space-based communication systems for commercial, civil and/or national security programs. This position will work with a highly-motivated team that works with domestic or international customers on their latest satellite systems. Project assignments typically span over the unit life cycle, from internal trades, concept studies and system definition, to satellite unit development and test. This role will be a part of our systems engineering team interacting with customers, suppliers, program management, integration and test engineers, and senior technologists. 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Designing and developing next generation RF, digital and/or optical satellite communication systems

  • Developing and verifying multi-rate, fixed-point signal processing algorithms

  • Allocating, defining and verifying requirements and interfaces

  • Developing performance and link budgets

  • Conducting performance analysis of signal processing models

  • Supporting trade studies

  • Supporting unit-level integration and performance simulations

  • Supporting HDL-level design and verification

  • Supporting hardware procurement, design reviews, and unit sell-offs

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship as a condition of employment. An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Education and/or experience in signal processing

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 3+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Level 4: 5+ years of work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Digital communication theory and systems, digital signal processing (DSP)

  • Waveform design and implementation

  • Development of algorithms for hardware implementation on ASICs or FPGAs

  • Verification planning and principles, while applying their theoretical knowledge in resolving real world problems.

  • Proficiency in Matlab/Simulink

  • Knowledge of HDL development concepts

  • Focus area of signal processing and/or digital communications

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Bachelor's and 2 or more years' experience, Master's degree or PhD degree. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Experienced (Level 3)

Bachelor's degree and typically 5 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 3 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead (Level 4)

Bachelor's degree and typically 9 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a Master's degree with typically 7 or more years' experience in an engineering classification or a PhD degree with typically 4 or more years' experience in an engineering classification. Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry. ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary Pay Range (Associate, Level 2): $87,550 - $118,450

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3): $104,550 - $141,450

Summary Pay Range (Lead, Level 4): $128,350 - $173,650
