Description

Fully reusable launch vehicles are the key to seamlessly connecting Earth and space. As a reusable upper stage Fluids Designer, you will have extreme ownership over all aspects of the vehicle fluid systems design, layout, assembly, test, launch, and refurbishment for a 100% reusable rocket designed to fly daily. You will support the upper stage Fluids Lead for the entire vehicle and engines fluids system. You will work closely with the rest of the design, manufacturing, and operations teams through all phases of the product lifecycle. You must be ready to stay focused, move fast, self-direct, and learn on the fly.

Responsibilities

  • Support the reusable upper stage fluids architecture, conceptual design, requirements, and concept of operations.
  • Develop system sizing and analysis models to drive hardware design and verify against requirements.
  • Develop and maintain system interfaces with respective vehicle subsystems.
  • Own the design and CAD modeling of vehicle fluid system hardware including propellant fill/drain lines, engine feedlines, pneumatics, instrumentation, tubing, pressurization systems, diffusers, valves, heat exchangers, reaction control systems, cavity purges, vents, propellant estimation systems, quick disconnects, pogo and anti-geyser systems, and secondary support structure.
  • Perform engineering stress analysis of vehicle fluid system hardware.
  • Support procurement, manufacturing, integrated vehicle assembly, and testing of vehicle fluid system hardware.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in design, build, and testing of vehicle fluids systems, valves, or engines.
  • Extensive experience with mechanical design, CAD software, engineering drawings, and configuration management (Siemens NX and Teamcenter preferred).
  • Extensive experience with stress analysis hand calculations and finite element analysis (Ansys preferred).
  • Exceptional command of fundamentals, including compressible flow, thermodynamics, control systems, cryogenics, and instrumentation
  • Strong knowledge of systems engineering fundamentals, and ability to apply that knowledge in practical ways to a fast-paced development program.
  • Proficiency with operation and testing of pneumatic, hydraulic, and cryogenic systems.
  • Proficiency with aerospace standard fasteners, seals, tubing, fittings, and commercial off the shelf hardware.
  • Proficiency with fluid analysis tools (Siemens AMESim, Thermal Desktop, Python, EES, REFPROP, or equivalent)
  • Hands on experience performing fabrication and assembly of pressurized hardware.

Compensation:  

Target levels:

  • Level 1 Range: $120,900 - $181,300
  • Level 2 Range: $147,700 - $221,600
