Job description
Here at The Exploration Company we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit, and which carries cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.
We want you as a talented intern engineer to join the Aerothermal and TPS team and support us by working on our simulation tools.
Key Responsibilities
Following the mission to democratize access to space, The Exploration Company is working on his next TPS - Thermal Protection System - generations which are being developped for its future Nyx vehicles. These systems are integrated in reusable reentry capsules which perform an Earth reentry at the end of a space station resupply mission from Low Earth Orbit, or after a journey around the Moon.
To do so, a global trade-off on TPS material and architecture is made at system level and for which both technical performances and cost aspects are taken into account. The Aerothermal & TPS team is looking for an intern in order to support the activities linked to the numerical simulation of radiations during reentry, especially for high speed reentry missions :
- Litterature on past and current reentry missions and studies which takes into account radiations during reentry.
- Based on this literature analysis, proposition of a way forward to introduce radiation heatflux in aerothermal simulation tools
- Identification of main physical parameters and physical laws which should be translated into TEC internal aerothermal tools for further TPS sizing
- Preparation and participation in internal discussions on the topic, as well as external exchanges with potential partners you have helped to identify
- Preliminary implementations in TEC numerical simulation tools and correlation with literature outputs
Depending on your capacity and the complexity of the topic, additional themes such as flight instrumentation, ground tests means and simulation validation can be looked at during the internship.
What we would love to see from you
- Enrolled in an Aerospace Engineering Program or related engineering discipline.
- Educational background in Simulation Tools
- Understanding of classical fluid dynamics, flight mechanics, modelling and simulation, and software development.
- Highly motivated to work in a fast-paced, autonomously driven, and demanding start-up environment.
- Fluent in English. French is an asset.
Skills and Behaviours:
- Ability to work equally well unsupervised or as part of a team
- Strong organising and prioritisation of tasks
- Positive and flexible attitude to get the job done
- Ability to communicate at all levels of the business
Why you should join us
What makes us special here at The Exploration Company and why we think you will enjoy working here is:
- We’re Agile - we make decisions fast whilst keeping our goals and systems in mind
- We’re Open and Collaborative - we are transparent about risks and obstacles, so that we can cooperate to overcome them
- We have a lot of Fun - we refuel our energy knowing we are democratising space. It’s a wonderful and rare opportunity, are YOU up for the challenge?
We'd love to hear from you if you wish to be a part of our journey. Please submit your CV now for immediate consideration and we will be in touch shortly.
