Job description
At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
Bring your passion for human spaceflight!
We are building a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to building the road to space. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require dedication and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join our production engineering team as we lower the cost of access to space and enable Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.
We are looking for Production Support Engineers to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. We are a small, passionate, and accomplished team of experts acting as the key technical interface between the production value stream (procurement, R&D, testing, quality, and operations) and the design engineering teams across Blue Origin Development Programs. Our mission is to build trust, provide hands-on MRB/Non-conformances floor support, guide design for manufacturability, and develop production engineering process/methodologies across program and production elements.
We use our knowledge of the production and manufacturing systems to provide valuable design feedback and incorporate producibility into design in support of our manufacturing capabilities. Additionally, we work with multi-functional teams to diagnose problems, disposition discrepancies, and identify and drive corrective actions to closure.
Being a standout colleague is a must! You will collaborate across multiple team interfaces to understand and overcome logistics, supply chain, and resource challenges to deliver mission-ready products.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Apply knowledge of aerospace manufacturing through the maintenance of the design and configuration integrity of complex mechanical systems and subassemblies.
- Perform hands-on engineering and liaison role between our design team, our test team, our operations team, and our manufacturing customers.
- Drive producibility excellence into product designs – Lead efforts to identify, develop, and deploy designs and methodologies that improve operational excellence through quality, cost, design, and process enhancements. Perform design for manufacture and assembly (DfMA) into the designs.
- Support the manufacturing floor in assembly, compliance to engineering requirements, discrepancy resolution, and component acceptance testing.
- Disposition and investigate root cause of discrepancies and take ownership of implementation of preventative/corrective action. Perform repair analysis of production hardware. Perform hands-on engineering and liaison role between our design, test, and operations teams and our manufacturing customers.
- Support the product through initial design release and operational gated reviews by evaluating and aiding in the development of required artifacts. Authorize in-build redlines and recommend changes to improve the design.
Qualifications:
- BS or MS degree in engineering or equivalent technical field.
- Proven experience in the design or manufacture of fluid or mechanical systems development, design, quality, manufacturing, and production engineering.
- Able to apply knowledge of manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment and materials into part and build plan development.
- Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the product lifecycle.
- Strong coordination and project management skills to track, manage, and prioritize multiple simultaneous tasks.
- Ability to operate, make decisions, lead, and make forward progress in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
- Ability to effectively team and communicate at all levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work within a geographically-dispersed organization.
- Successful track record effectively working with cross-functional teams, developing trust, and maintaining positive and professional relationships.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired:
- Experience in complex hardware design and manufacturing (for example, castings, forgings, additive manufactured components, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing methods, and complex assembly and acceptance testing).
- Previous experience with engineering change management, non-conformances, and material review board.
- Experience and knowledge to read drawings and interpret GD&T and to perform tolerance stack-up analysis of high precision aerospace hardware. Familiar with applicable ASME standards, such as Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41.
- Experience with Manufacturing Execution Systems/Software and processes.
Inclusivity Statement
Don’t meet all desired requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every desired qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway.
